Metropolitan United Church, located at 468 Wellington Street in London, was established in 1925, formerly Methodist. The first Methodist Church in London was built at the corner of Ridout and Carling Street. As the congregation grew in size, many buildings were constructed to accomodate the congregation. In 1854, North Street Methodist was built on the corner of North (now Queens Avenue) and Clarence Streets. The church was later renamed Queens Avenue Methodist to reflect the name change of the street. The church was destroyed by fire on February 2, 1895. It was rebuilt that year and renamed First Methodist Church. The church joined the United Church of Canada in 1925 and took the name Metropolitan United Church. It is stil an active congregation of the United Church of Canada.
