Matthew Teefy (1822-1911) was an Irish immigrant who settled in Richmond Hill, Ontario in 1832, where he became a general merchant, postmaster, village clerk, and justice of the peace.

Scope and content
Fonds consists of originals and microfilmed copies of records, created, received and accumulated by Matthew Teefy in his capacity as a businessman and office holder. Business records include Teefy's general merchandising firm's daily ledger books, 1842-1861, and invoice books, 1852, 1855. Teefy's public office records include: marriage affidavits, 1874-1884; post office money letters, 1855-1860; and school tax notices, 1864, 1879. Also included is personal correspondence, 1857-1878, and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings pertaining to Reciprocity, 1842-1917. Fonds also contains numerous printed materials collected by Teefy including: Canada and the Canadian Question, by Goldwin Smith, 1892; Buffalo And Detroit Trade Publications, 1864, 1890; Provincial Board of Health Circulars, 1883-1893; Address to the Freeholders Of York County, by Jessie Ketchum, 1828; and the First Report of the Central Committee on the Petition to the Imperial Parliament from Christians of All Denominations in Upper Canada, 1828.
