Administrative history
The Macdonald Stewart Art Centre is a public art gallery in Guelph, Ontario that was incorporated in 1978 through an Act of the Provincial Legislature. The Centre houses seven galleries and presents annual exhibitions of contemporary and historical art and craft drawn from regional, national, and international sources covering more than 300 years of Canadian art. The Centre specializes in contemporary art, contemporary Inuit drawings, and outdoor sculpture in the adjacent Donald Forster Sculpture Park. It also features the University of Guelph and Art Centre collections, which are on permanent loan to the Centre. The Centre is officially sponsored by the University of Guelph, the City of Guelph, the County of Wellington, and the Upper Grand District School Board. The Macdonald Stewart Art Centre is a non-profit organization and is administered by a Board comprised of 15 trustees of whom the University, City, County and School Board each appoint three representatives. Three trustees are elected by the membership.
