Historique
The members of the Local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee (LACAC) first took the idea of writing a book about the history of London Township from the Township Council. The London Township History Book Committee was formed to research and produce a written history of not only London Township proper, but also of the people who shaped the Township into what it is today. The research took place between 1997-2001, the book being completed and published in October of 2001. The London Township History Book Committee disbanded soon after the book's publication.
The work of this History Book Project was completed by volunteers and committee members. Chairperson of the committee was Stan Elliott, and the book was edited by Alice Gibb. Information was supplied by the J. J. Talman Regional Collection, the D.B. Weldon Library, the London Room, the Middlesex County Library , the Ilderton Library and the London Museum of Archeology. Extensive use was made of the Tweedsmuir history books and scrapbooks of the Women's Institutes of Ilderton, Birr, Crumlin, and Hyde Park. Community members also supplied hundreds of photographs, newspaper articles, scrapbooks and letters. A copy of the completed volumes can be found in the reading room of the Middlesex Centre Archives.
