Administrative history
The Listowel Concert Singers was formed in the spring of 1985 with the first Conductor being Paul Sloan. Other members of the executive included Tim Gilbert (Assistant Conductor), Nancy Skinner, Douglas Hay and George Gracey. Initially there were about 60 -70 singers from the Listowel area. The purpose of the Listowel Concert Singers was to provide local music enthusiasts with the opportunity to learn and perform some of the great choral musical classics of the past and present with orchestra and soloists. Another goal of the group was to increase public awareness of the choral arts by presenting to the public a variety of choral works. In December of 1985, the Listowel Concert Singers, along with the K-W Symphony Orchestra performed Handel's Messiah three times. In the years to follow, other well-known works such as 'Gloria,' 'Elijah,' and 'King David,' were performed. A special concert entitled 'O Canada' was undertaken in celebration of Canada's 125th Anniversary of Confederation in 1992. The Listowel Concert Singers invited guest soloists, orchestras and individual instrumentalists to perform with them. They also organized a number of fundraising events including an annual Ham and Strawberry Supper and a Valentine's Gala Dinner, Art and Auction evening. The Listowel Concert Singers disbanded in January of 2002 due to a declining membership.
