        Brown City Feb 5 – 1918
        My dear friend Eliza,
        Sure was pleased to get your letter but sorry to hear of your trouble and the loss of your dear boy you sure have my heart felt sympathy and hopes that the other boys may be spared to you. this war sure is a terrible thing and I am hoping and praying Each day that it may end super?. Caroline has her youngest boy at the contovemart? practicing and they expect to leave any time now for France and Bro Christ his youngest boy is already over there he is with the airoplain [sic] company. my boys are both married and Each has a son child so that so far has left them at home

        but if it lasts much longer I cant tell but they may have to go I hope not I sure feel for any mother that has her boys their [sic]. my youngest girl ma she lives next dore [sic] to me has been married 6 years and has had her first child a little daughter born Feb. 1 last Friday. both her and baby are real smart. her mother in Law is staying with her this winter so it made it Easier for me she names it Vanda Marie Neumann that is her name now. Mary my oldest girl has been Married 11 years has no children. She is not very well they live on a farm sister Caroline and all her family are well girls still single. the rest are well as far as I know Christ love in Mt. Clemence near Detroit and their children are all married except the youngest boy and all live in the City of Detroit. Caroline has 2 boys and living in Detroit too. David is still on the farm and all his family are at home Maggies husband is living this winter at Carolines his children are all married and 2 boys are in Northwest near Didsbury one boy is in Flint this girls are on farms 5 + 6 miles out Bro John stock lives in Flint all his children married + live their so now see we are quite scattered around to. I will enclose in this a Picture of Baby Mark Campbell Lewis he was 3 years old their will be 4 till next June we think he is pretty cute. Now write me soon and let me know weather any of the Lewises boys are in the war. addison is anxious to know and does Ed. live in galt yet I would send him a Picture of baby Mark if I knew his address

        Now I will write your boy a letter I am sure I would do anything that I thought might give any pleasure to the poor boys out their it must be a terrible lonesome time for them that have been use to having such good homes. Now give my best wishes to Hannah and James when you see them I sure would love to see you all and all the Old friends I often long to see them seems when we get older we think more about our childhood days then in the former days.
