Biographical history
The Lennox and Addington Historical Society was formally constituted in 1907. The objectives were: “To engage in the collection preservation, exhibition and publication of materials for the study of history, especially the history of the County of Lennox and Addington.” The archival collections of the Society are housed at the Lennox and Addington County Museum in Napanee. The Society has always taken the position that paper ephemera can contribute to the understanding of history and has collected sheet music since the Society was founded. The sheet music collection includes acquisitions from many sources, but the two largest accessions came from Beatrice Baughan and Mary Daly. Mary Christina Daly was a daughter of William A. Daly of Napanee. Beatrice Alice Baughan, a member of the Newburgh Baughan family, was organist at Trinity United Church, Napanee, for many years.

Administrative history
The Lennox and Addington Historical Society was formally constituted in 1907. The objectives in 1907 were: “To engage in the collection, preservation, exhibition and publication of materials for the study of history, especially the history of the county of Lennox and Addington.” The Society has always maintained enthusiasm for both material culture and documentary heritage. It owns a large collection of artifacts and archival materials, most of which are housed at the Lennox and Addington County Museum in Napanee. The Society also owns and operates the Allan Macpherson House, which has custody of items from the collection appropriate to the role of the House. In addition, the Society supports interest in the history and genealogy of Lennox and Addington through an annual programme of lectures, publication of their “Papers and Records”, an active website, and special projects such as the book “Remembering” (Lennox and Addington in World War Two).

Scope and content
The collection contains sheet music of some classical music, but consists mostly of popular tunes arranged for piano. Included are parlour pieces from the gay ‘90's; favourites from the Edwardian period; songs of the First World War; hits from the early days of recorded music; and music made popular by performers of early days of radio (1920's and 1930's). Some of the cover designs are as interesting as the music. Fonds is comprised of the following series: Mary Daly sheet music Beatrice Baughan sheet music Miscellaneous sheet music
