    Administrative history

The Kitchener-Waterloo Track and Field Association (KWTFA) was established in 1970. From approximately 1986 to 1987, its name was changed from The Kitchener-Waterloo Minor Track and Field Association to the Kitchener-Waterloo Track and Field Association. The KWTFA is committed towards providing opportunities for children to participate in track and field activities and to promote fitness and community spirit within Kitchener-Waterloo.

Some of the activities which the KWTFA organized include track meets and training camps for its athletes as well as charity runs such as the K-W Hospital Run and Oktoberfest 10 KM Run. KWTFA representatives were also members of the Advisory Committee overseeing the creation of the Waterloo Recreation Complex in 1991.

Prior to 1993, the KWTFA encountered competition in track and field funding by the Waterloo Region Association of Track and Field Clubs (WRATFC), an umbrella organization headed by ex-coaches for the KWTFA. In May 1993, Waterloo City Council followed Kitchener City Council in its decision to recognize and fund the KWTFA as the primary track and field club in Kitchener-Waterloo, contingent upon the KWTFA revising its constitution.

        General note

When these records were received, they were not organized in any clear fashion. It appears that there were several different people submitting these records on behalf of the KWTFA and each imposed a different organizational structure on the records. As a result, an artificial structure was imposed when these records were donated. When the fonds was re-examined in 2005, it was found that the archival boxes were only half-filled, resulting in damage to the records. Therefore, the entire fonds was re-boxed and the finding aid modified to reflect those changes.
