Administrative history
The Kingston General Hospital Nurses' Alumnae Association was formed in 1896 by graduates of the Kingston General Hospital School of Nursing, initially for the purpose of maintaining and furnishing the nurses' home and making surgical dressing. It has since become an organization sponsoring social functions for nursing students and raising funds for the Hospital. Some of the fund-raising events that have been organised by the Nurses' Alumnae have included Garden Parties, the Mother-Daughter Tea, and an annual Fashion Show. The Nurses' Alumnae also organized large reunions on the 50th and 75th anniversaries of the Nursing School in 1936 and 1961. Despite closure of the KGH School of Nursing in 1974, with its courses being transferred to St. Lawrence College (Kingston), annual reunions continue to be held, including the 100th Anniversary of the Association in 1996.
Custodial history
The records of the Kingston General Hospital Nurses' Alumnae were transferred to the Kingston General Hospital Archives located at Queen's University Archives in November 1980, December 1995, May 1996, and again in November 1997 as part of the Administrative Records Management and Archives Program (ARMAP).
