Biographical history

Angus Munroe left Scotland for the United States in 1830 where he would settle in Rhode Island and marry Miss Ruth Anna Crandall. By 1842, a decision was reached to purchase farm land in Canada near Embro, Ontario. He would eventually settle on Lot 7, Concession 2, in the Township of West Zorra. Angus Munroe was a member of the West Zorra Municipal Council and its representative on the District of Brock Council in the late 1840s.

His son, George A. Munroe, would eventually own property in the Township of West Zorra as well, including Lot 9, Concession where he built his home known as “Joel Hill”. The residence at one point had five working fireplaces.

George A. Munroe had three children including Angus George Crandall Munroe (born 1874). His daughter Mary Davidson (Maidie) married Wilfred Burrill of Norwich. Their daughter Kathleen (Kay) McMullen would eventually settle in the County of Elgin, near Shedden, Ontario.

The County of Oxford Archives received the records from Kay McMullen on June 16, 2016. Prior to, the records were handed down through family generations
