Administrative history

In 1995, Claude Bélanger, Evelyne Bélanger, Nathalie Éthier, Doris Guertin, Nicole Guertin, Robert Guertin, Pierre Ouellette and Robert Perras decided to establish L’Horizon, a French-language newspaper. The Kapuskasing investors wanted their weekly to cover the area from Smooth Rock Falls to Opasatika. The first issue of L'Horizon was published on September 6, 1995. Pierre Ouellette was the editor and general manager of the newspaper. In 1997, The Weekender, a bilingual weekly distributed free of charge on weekends, was added to the enterprise. At one point, L’Horizon was inserted in The Weekender. In 2005, the Northern Times bought L'Horizon/The Weekender. L'Horizon eventually disappeared and the Weekender ceases to exist in the fall of 2017.
