    Scope and content

These papers include textual and graphic materials created and collected by the Reverend John Linton in the course of his career as a Baptist minister and temperance activist. The fonds include records of a number of temperance organizations collected by Linton as a result of his research and commitment to preserving a historical record of the movement. Included are records of the Dominion Alliance for the Total Suppression of the Liquor Traffic, the Royal Templars of Temperance, and various federal, provincial, municipal and denominational temperance organizations. The photographs depict conferences and individuals in the post-prohibition temperance movement, while the posters and cartoons visually document different appeals and approaches used in anti-alcohol advertising and editorializing, both before and after prohibition. The fonds is arranged into five series based on format: General Files, Printed Matter, Photographs; Posters, Editorial Cartoons.
