Biographical history
John Allison was likely born in Bristol, England, in 1813 and was the great, great uncle of the donor. He was the son of Thomas (b.1781) and Barbara (b.1789) Allison.

Scope and content
The John Allison fonds contains two school notebooks penned by John Allison as a boy of thirteen showing a superb example of penmanship. They also stand as an example of what was taught in schools at the time. Both were bound at a later date. Together, the two books form one series.
