        General note

Fred Laberge was the first Mayor of the Town of Sudbury to be born within the town. (He was born ten months after the Town of Sudbury was incorporated and about a month and a half after the first official town council meeting for the new municipality.)

        General note

        J. Alfred Laberge was born February 16, 1893 to Jean Baptiste Laberge and Rosanna Laforet in Sudbury, Ontario. He married Marie Amenahar on August 11, 1913 at Ste. Anne des Pins Church in Sudbury, Ontario. Laberge was a well known businessman in the lumber industry, nicknamed the "lumber king," as well as a farmer (for over 18 years in Rayside Township) and a politician. His father founded Laberge Lumber Company which constructed many prominent buildings within the town. Leberge moved to Montreal after retirement in October 1956 and died at his home in Westmount, Quebec on March 27, 1964.
