Biographical history

J.C. Alexandre Taschereau was the Director of Language Training at National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) during 1969-1982. He enrolled in 1951 with the 3rd batallion Royal 22nd Regiment, and went to Korea the next year. In 1955 he became the adjutant of the instructor chief of the Vandoo's depot. From 1957 to 1959 he served with the 2nd battalion Royal 22nd Regiment. In 1964 he was responsible for the recruiting of the Eastern Quebec Area and in 1965 he was transferred to Eastern Headquarters. He was Squadron commander at the Royal Military College in St-Jean. In August 1969 he was named Director of Language Training at NDHQ until he retired from the forces in June 1982. He was a member of the committee on bilingualism and biculturalism. In 1973 Taschereau was promoted to Lieutenant-Colonel, and was decorated with the order of Military Merit.

Fonds consists of 8 volumes regarding the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Language Training Program / Base Language Training Program on bilingualism and biculturalism during 1969 to 1981. Includes minutes to meetings of the Director General of Bilingualism and Biculturalism (DGBB) (1971-1983), a Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) policy directive on the long term program of bilingualism in the Canadian Armed Forces (1969-1971), a Dept. of National Defence volume re Bilingualism and Biculturalism program resources (1971-1973), and Lieutenant General Jacques A. Dextraze's volume of policies and directives (1971). Also includes Alexandre Taschereau's working papers and background papers (1970-1971).
