The Imperial Order Daughters of the Empire (IODE), Elizabeth Fry Chapter, Sudbury branch was formed on February 23, 1932. The Elizabeth Fry Chapter was one of four chapters of the IODE that eventually organized in the Sudbury district. The other chapters were: Nipissing, Marjorie Price, and Elizabeth Barrett Browning. The Elizabeth Fry Chapter consists of women that work together for the public good of their community. It is a non-denominational and non-partisan organization of volunteers who are involved in fundraising efforts to finance their activities. The work of this group is connected to service, education, and citizenship. The Elizabeth Fry Chapter is also a member of the IODE at the provincial and national levels.

Scope and content
The records of this fonds document the operation of the Elizabeth Fry Chapter of the IODE, Sudbury Branch, and they include: minutes, reports, correspondence, pamphlets, photographs, and newspaper clippings. These records provide insight to the activities of the Chapter within the Sudbury area from 1932 to 1997. Through the years, the activities of this organization have entailed: sponsoring children at summer camps, genetic testing clinics, scholarships, donations to local hospitals and libraries, and service at Citizenship Court. In the earlier years, this Chapter organized inoculation clinics, the Fresh Air Camp, support for needy children, and aid for the war effort.
