This includes minutes of meetings, correspondence, memoranda, maps, graphical records, numerical summaries and interdepartmental committee reports. The third volume includes a translation of a Russian document, entitled “In the Heart of the Arctic”, that was prepared by the Defence Scientific Information Service of the Defence Research Board in 1955. Among others, items discussed at the ACND meetings include the following: Inuit settlement, the Northwest Highway System, petroleum in the Arctic, proposed pipelines, oil exploration, arctic expeditions, US hydrographic operations, arctic re-supply, United States Air Force (USAF) activities, the Distant Early Warning Line, the Mid-Canada Line, airstrips in the Far North, navigation in the Hudson Strait and hydroelectric developments in the Yukon.
