Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran pertaining to the activities of the Ad Hoc Committee of Canadian Women on the Constitution, a national non-profit organization of Canadian women's groups and individuals formed in January 1981 to ensure equality rights for women were included in the new Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Records in this series document McPhedran's involvement as co-founder, organizer and participant with the committee and its activities, including the National Workshop on the Charter in 1981; Conference of Canadian Women and the Constitution in 1982; Critical Perspectives on the Constitution in 1983; and the National Symposium on Equality Rights in 1985. Also documented in this series is the committee's re-emergence in the late 1980s and early 1990s to challenge constitutional amendments proposed in the Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords, and to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Ad Hoc Committee in 2006, commemorated with a conference, the Canadian Forum on Women's Activism. Files include reports, journal articles, newspaper clippings, notes, pamphlets, government publications, legal documents, transcripts, affidavits, grant applications, photographs, financial statements, memoranda, correspondence, day planners, and assorted ephemera.

The fonds contains the records of Marilou McPhedran dating from 1976-2006, primarily from 1989-2006.

These records relate to her positions as Corporate Director for Academic Women's Health at Women's College Hospital, executive member of the Friends of Women's College Hospital, co-chair of the Teaching to Promote Women's Health: An International Multidisciplinary Conference, and member of the Women's College Hospital Board of Directors.

The fonds document the Friends of Women's College Hospital's opposition to the proposed merger between Women's College Hospital and The Toronto Hospital, its legal challenge against the Health Services Restructuring Commission, the de-amalgamation of Women's College Hospital and Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, and the development of the New Women's College Hospital.

The fonds consists of correspondence, notebooks and handwritten notes, memoranda, meeting minutes, newsletters, newspaper clippings, press releases, reports, photographs, audio cassettes and video cassettes.

Fonds consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran through her activities as a lawyer, legal reformer, and activist. These records illustrate the breadth and variety of McPhedran's work in the areas of constitutional reform, women's international and national rights, women's health, and violence against women and children. Included in the fonds are administrative records of a number of non-profit organizations and committees of which she was a founder, including the Women's Legal Education Action Fund, the Gerstein Centre, the Metropolitan Action Committee on Violence against Women and Children, and the Ad Hoc Committee of Canadian Women on the Constitution.
