Fonds consists of the records relating to the administration and operation of the Brooklin Council No. 102 of the Royal Templars of Temperance. Series are broken down into administrative, financial, membership, and ceremonial records.

Fonds consists of correspondence between Captain James R. Allan and Vivien Beer of Strathroy, Ontario before Captain Allan, was killed; press clippings and photographs of Captain Allan and Private Walter Beer while serving in World War I, and scenes of various members of the Beer family.

This fonds consists of John Peirson’s diaries with enclosures, for the years: 1888, 1892-1919, 1921-1925, and 1927. His brief daily journal entries include information related to his family, political life, rural life, personal financial information, social engagements, church meetings, weather and farm operations and activities, including ploughing, sowing and the sale of animals. Mr. Peirson also makes mention of world events, including the sinking of the Titanic and the end of the Great War.

Journals after 1919 each continue to have the name “John Peirson” written on the title page, sometimes with the name of the person who gave the diary to him as a gift; however, most entries in those journals appear to have been written either by John’s daughter-in-law, Catherine (Black) Peirson, and/or his daughter, Mary Ann (Peirson) Hilborn, both of whom were living in houses on the homestead with John. These journals include references to “father” and his health. Other topics include social activities, Women’s Institute meetings, social visits, family life, and some financial information.

Enclosures in the diaries, such as invoices, statements and newspaper clippings, reflect some of the businesses in the community, such as W.A. Gerolamy, grocer; J.W. Chittick Burgoyne General Store; and The Tara Creamery. John Peirson’s involvement with the Burgoyne Cheese Company, and family events reported in the newspaper up to 1937 are also reflected in the enclosures.

This fonds consists chiefly of records related to William Victor Tranter (1894-1915), known as “Victor”, and his time serving with the 1st Canadian Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, during World War I. Includes his diary written from December 27, 1914 to June 7, 1915 including his experiences at the Battle of Ypres, four letters written by Victor to family between April 1914 and May 1915, photograph of Victor ca. 1914, death certificate, correspondence from hospital chaplain, Sister Rose, and Town of Southampton to Victor’s parents, William and Annie Tranter, In Memoriam Card, transcript of cemetery registration and gravemarker, photograph of gravemarker at Wimereux Communal Cemetery Pas de Calais, France, and newspaper notice of Victor’s death.

This fonds consists of 5 record books kept by Robert B. Hillmer concerning his watchmaking and jewellery business. In the books, Mr. Hillmer recorded watch inventories (1899), as well as job numbers, client name, work requested and price. Item List: Watch Repair Book 1910 - 1913; Watch Repair Book 1924 - 1934; Watch Repair Book 1936 - 1954; Watch Repair Record book, 1913 - 1924; and Watch Repair Record book 1898-1910. The fonds also includes a Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons of Canada certificate appointing Robert Benjamin Hillmer to the office of Grand Superintendent of Huron District No. 6, February 28, 1918.

The collection contains original photographs, as well as several copies of photographs depicting daily activities of the Kunkel family in Sudbury and North Bay. While the majority of the photographs depict Bill and Grace Kunkel with their two boys, there are a few others of a football game and a telephone service center, for example. Although some of the individuals in the photographs are identified, most of the photographs are not dated, nor identified. There are a total of 110 black and white photographs and 2 color photographs. The collection also includes 2 newspaper clippings: one of the Sudbury Star and the other of the North Bay Nugget.

The William G. (Reindeer) Walton fonds consists mostly of his personal correspondence, reports, photographs, and of books he helped translate into Cree and Inuktitut. The documents attest to Walton’s missionary work and his relentless dedication and hard work to get the governments and the population in general interested in the conditions of life of the population of the James Bay and Hudson Bay area.

There is an extensive series of correspondence with Walton’s wife Daisy (née Spencer) and his children. In the letters to his fiancée there are some ‘courtship letters’ but he also reports of his daily activities at the mission or when travelling in the diocese. Later letters describe the life of the people and the missions of Kuujjuarapik and Whapmagoostui* (previously known as Great Whale River) and Fort George as well as his different meetings and activities while in England. The correspondence with his children is more on their activities at the school they are attending in Ontario or in England.

While the correspondence with family and friends is more personal, the correspondence with HBC managers reports on the different posts, hunting, incidents and life at the post. Some of the correspondence with the Bishop of Moosonee and or with different missionaries and the Treasurer of the diocese, concerns the missionary work at different missions.

Reports, briefs, correspondence with the government and with different organizations address the life and conditions of the communities of the James Bay area and the many challenges the Indigenous Peoples were facing. The need for care, food and his project of introducing reindeers into the region is well represented and documented. Correspondence with American groups and researchers on the integration of reindeer in Alaska, or with different government agents attest to all his research and efforts on this matter.

The lantern slides and images depict the culture, way of life, and landscapes of the area, as well as some of the starvation of the early 1900’s in Indigenous communities of the James Bay and Hudson Bay area.

*Kuujjuarapik is the Inuk name for Great Whale River and Whapmagoostui is the Cree name for Great Whale River.

Fonds consists of original letters, certificates, sketches and maps pertaining to the family of Thomas Alexander Stewart and Frances Stewart of Peterborough, Ontario and their descendents. Included are letters to Ellen Dunlop written by Frances Stewart, Catharine Parr Traill, Harriet Beaufort, and others. Also included are pieces of sheet music and music certificates of Alice Roger Collins; medical certificates of Doctor Thomas Hay; newspaper clippings related to Katherine E. Wallis; and a scrapbook of nineteenth-century ferns and mosses of the United Kingdom.

Fonds is comprised of three bound volumes of correspondence, sketches, paintings, diaries, receipts, newspaper clippings, deeds, baptismal and marriage records, family trees, and scrapbooks pertaining to the Wallis family. Included also are several documents pertaining to the Forbes family, related to the Wallis family through marriage. The Peterborough-born sculptress Katherine E. Wallis (1860-1957), whose papers are located in Trent University Archives, was a member of the Wallis family.

The records consists of several series. One series is correspondence to E. Ann Lowthian from Marjorie Blosdale. The majority of correspondence is to Bessie from different cousins and friends. There is also a series of Greeting Cards for Christmas, Easter, and other occasions. Of special interest are the programmes of The Mozart Music Club which operated for eighteen years. There are also several copies of the programme "Suzanne" written by Eric Minnitt. Another series is from the University of Toronto's Royal Conservatory of Music which features invitation cards to Bessie for various student recitals. Other series include family photographs or negatives (not identified) and newspaper clippings.

This collection represents materials originating or used by W.C. Mikel. The first folder contains three speeches delivered during his time as Police Magistrate and Mayor. The next series of folders contains references and sources for his volume The City of Belleville History. The second folder contains correspondence regarding the book. Folders three through ten contain the notes Mikel used for each chapter. Folder eleven contains the plans for “Quinte City" and documents from the Town Planning Institute among others. Folder twelve contains unattributed reference material and general research for the book. Folder thirteen contains Mikel's collection of material for the 1924 United Empire Loyalist celebration which was held during his first term as Mayor. Folder fourteen contains Mrs. Mikel's obituary, a letter from Mikel to the Bank of Montreal, and a letterhead from the period he served as Police Magistrate. Folder fifteen contains three copies of his book, Godlove Mikel. The sixtenth folder contains a variety of newspaper clippings.
