It was created by Betty Kerr (d. 2001) in 1984 to celebrate Port Hope's Sesquicentennial.

The historical information covers a period from the mid-19th century to 2000. The fonds also consists of a large number of photographs. It also consists of a number of newspaper editions including special editions.
