Fonds Famille Richards

Le fonds contient des documents datant de 1896 à 1947 concernant le magasin général et la scierie de la famille Richards à Balaclava, en Ontario. En ce qui concerne la scierie, les documents comprennent des livrets des heures de travail (1905-1926), des registres de coupe (1895-1927), des livres de comptes de billes (1908-1910, 1934-1939), des contrats pour du bois d’œuvre et de charpente (1898-1910) et des contrats pour des traverses de chemins de fer (1914-1927).

On trouve aussi des dossiers divers de la famille Richards, comme des certificats d’assurance (1899-1913), des déclarations de revenus de Harry Richards (1916-1923, 1933-1940), et des carnets de William Richard sur les sommes qu’il devait (1892-1898) ainsi que ses comptes de succession (1908-1912). Il y a aussi des documents relatifs à la commission scolaire publique des cantons de Grattan et Brougham (1891-1931) et à la société Brougham and Grattan Telephone Co. (1907-1921).

Le livre de correspondance de Jean Étienne Fournier contient presqu’uniquement la correspondance d’affaires de monsieur Fournier. Cette correspondance témoigne d’activités qui ont eu lieu au tout début de la ville de Sudbury. Les 746 pages de correspondance nous renseignent entre autre sur les activités du magasin général en terme d’achat, mais aussi en ce qui a trait aux créances de celui-ci. De nombreuses lettres font référence au rôle du maître poste ou encore du gérant d’entrepôt pour le Canadien Pacifique ou encore agent d’assurance. Certains faits et événements concernant le conseil scolaire ou les écoles y sont aussi relatés.

Fonds Thomas Pocklington

Le fonds se compose de trois volumes, dont deux sont des registres qui datent de l’époque à laquelle Thomas Pocklington était gestionnaire à la Consolidated Optical Company. Les registres offrent un rare aperçu des activités courantes au sein d’un fabricant d’instruments canadien. Ils comportent des documents relatifs à des achats, des contrats, des reçus et autres documents datant de 1914 à 1920. L’autre volume est un cahier de notes d’un cours d’arpentage qui n’est pas daté.

Silver Islet Collection
Collection · 1870 - 1910

Photographs and documents from the Silver Islet Mine and Silver Islet Store, including ledgers and a chart.

A rich deposit of silver was discovered on Silver Islet in 1868. A small island at the tip of the Sibley Peninsula, the mine was built deep below the waterline, and relied on breakwaters and pumps. Silver Islet was mined until 1884, when pumps failed, and the mine was flooded. The small community built on shore to support the mine is still inhabited.
