Series consists of records pertaining to a libel lawsuit brought against Marilou McPhedran by the Ontario Medical Association (OMA) regarding a 2001 article titled "First, do no harm", written by McPhedran for the "Globe and Mail" newspaper. These records document the court appeal of Dr. Anil Mussani, who was found guilty of the sexual abuse of a patient by the College of Physicians and Surgeons, and the OMA's role as intervenor, the nature of McPhedran's response to the lawsuit, and negotiations for the settlement of the case. Included in the series are research materials pertaining to McPhedran's work as chair of the Task Force on the Sexual Abuse of Patients, which she headed in 1991 and 2000. Series consists of records created by Marilou McPhedran during her completion of a part-time LL.M degree in Comparative Constitutional Law through the Professional Development Program at Osgoode Hall Law School, which she began in 2002 and completed in 2004. Series consists of files created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran pertaining to an Ontario Human Rights complaint filed against Osgoode Hall Law School and York University Dean Harry Arthurs and the resulting formation of the Institute for Feminist Legal Research at York University. McPhedran was one of more than 100 lawyers, law students and legal academics who were signatories of this complaint, which charged systemic discrimination against women after Osgoode Hall Law School did not promote Professor Mary Jane Mossman to the position of dean. The records in this series document the process of settling the dispute, the meetings and activities of the complainants' steering committee, and the details of the settlement made between the complainants and York University. Series consists of records pertaining to Marilou McPhedran's involvement with the International Women's Rights Project (IWRP), founded in 1998 and initially based at the Centre for Refugee Studies at York University. The records in this series document McPhedran's work as founding director to fulfill the project's mandate, which was to strengthen the capacity of women's non-government organizations through research and activism to influence the implementation of international human rights standards. These records reflect IWRP's initial primary focus on the Conventional on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) Impact Study and Report, but also document projects that emerged from the CEDAW project, including initiatives regarding women's rights in Afghanistan and a project with the Kharvik Centre for Women's Studies in the Ukraine. McPhedran was a co-founder of the fund and member of the finance committee in 1982 and 1983. Series consists of records accumulated by Marilou McPhedran pertaining to the work of the Program Advisory Committee of the Canadian Firearms Program, formed in February 2003, on which McPhedran served as a member until its disbandment in 2005. Series consists of records created and accumulated by Marilou McPhedran while employed as an international consultant for Cowater International, hired to conduct a study and prepare a final report about the work of the Asian Development Bank's RETA 6008: Gender and Governance Issues in Local Government project. This fonds consists of chattel mortgages and chattel mortgage renewals filed at Manitoulin District Court from 1888 to 1915. The records provide information on what moveable property was held as collateral security.

The Buchanan family fonds consists mostly of correspondence, invitations, photographs, books and other types of documents. The records pertain to the years that George and Lilla Buchanan were residents of Sudbury. Most of the correspondence is between Lilla Buchanan and her family and friends. There are also letters of congratulations for the appointment of George Buchanan as King's Counsel. A program, photographs and a newspaper clipping document the Royal Visit to Sudbury on June 5, 1939. The photographs of the fonds depict the Buchanan family and their friends. There are also 11 copies of photographs depicting Sudbury in the early 1900s, people of the community, and early railway construction.

The Elmer Sopha fonds contains what is believed to be Sopha’s only remaining records. The fonds consists primarily of notes and transcripts of speeches delivered at various gatherings between 1965 and 1980, and also transcripts of daily radio commentaries aired at a local Sudbury station. The records also consist of transcripts of articles that Sopha wrote for journals and for weekly columns in the Northern Life newspaper, as well as correspondence consisting mainly of letters written by Sopha to members of the Provincial and Federal Legislatures, and their responding letters. These documents provide insight into the private and public life of Elmer Sopha, and they emphasize his opinions on a variety of subjects. The documents also attest to the fact that Sopha was a respected lawyer and a popular guest speaker at numerous gatherings throughout Ontario. His speeches offer a sense of how he positioned himself within the socio-political landscape of the time, both as a politician, and as an individual. The records of this fonds are a testimony to the dedication of Elmer Sopha to the cultural, economic and judicial concerns of Northern Ontario.
