Series consists of textual records such as diaries and correspondence created and or accumulated by Valerie Jackson. Some of the letters and diaries relate to her grandfather Dr. W.J.R Fowler a veterinarian in Guelph. One document is titled “Dr. W.J.R Fowler- a tribute.” Other records pertain to Fowler’s daughter who was Valerie Jackson’s mother such as correspondence.

The fonds consists of one scrapbook documenting Jean Eagles Watson’s activities in the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division.

The scrapbook includes pages with captions on the top of the page that serves to organize the contents. Sub series consists of research reports and studies related to library automation, feasibility studies for branch expansion, new central library planning, City of Guelph publications about zero based budgeting, and materials pretaininng to civic affairs issues such as the ward system and development projects within the city.

Also included are annual reports from various public libraries, publications pretaining to the role of the trustee, and labour relations matters. In addition, there are publications from the Ontario Public Library Service and The Midwestern Regional Library System. These records were used as reference and for consultative purposes to guide the Chief Librarian in library planning.

Cartwright and Wood Families

Fonds consists of records relating to three generations of the Cartwright family, their relatives, friends and colleagues. Most prominent are the papers of Mabel Cartwright, which includes correspondence with her family and relatives, diaries, notebooks and photographs.

Correspondence and other records from earlier generations of Cartwrights are included, most from Mabel Cartwright’s parents dating from the late 1860s to the early 1920s. Letters from Mabel Cartwright’s siblings, including Stephen, a missionary in Japan, are included. Financial and legal documents are included from the time Mabel Cartwright lived with her sister Winifred. The fonds also contains material accumulated and written by Hilda Fern Wood about Mabel Cartwright, and some records relating to the Wood family.
