Fonds consists of the correspondence by Commodore Isaac Chauncey, documenting his activities at Jackets Harbor to create a naval force sufficiently strong to fight the British at Kingston during the War of 1812. The correspondence was addressed to the Secretary of the U.S. Navy Department in Washington between November 1812 and March 1813. It includes lists of those killed and wounded in Chauncey's squadron, damages sustained by the squadron, and prizes, prisoners and positions taken from the British. The Commodore reported on U.S. military forces at Jacket Harbor and Erie, and on British military forces and operations at Kingston. Also includes requests and arrangements made by Chauncey to reinforce regular troops and fleet for the winter, and the opening of the campaign in the Spring.

Fonds consists of photocopied records regarding the activities of the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff for 1946-1964. There are correspondence, memoranda and working drafts concerning North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) military affairs. The 2007 accession consists of copies of the records of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for 1946-1958. These files are mixed in with other US Western Hemisphere Continental Defence files dealing with Canada-United States military relations, defence, air defence, emergency defence plans, military cooperation and security. Also includes the defence of Central and South America as regards to the Act of Chapultipec.

Fonds consists of 1 published volume regarding the early volunteer militia of Brant County, Ontario during 1856- 1866. Includes information on the roots of the militia in Brant County; significant experiences of the militia, including the Fenian invasion of 1866; descriptions of the units of service, including rifle, infantry, truck and railway companies; and the creation of the 38th Brant Battalion of Infantry. Also includes illustrations and personal recollections of former reserves. Fonds provides officer lists of companies within the county including those awarded medals, militia acts, general orders, memoranda, weapons, and uniforms at this time. There is also a photocopy of the July 1944 issue of the "Brantford Skyline". The issue was published by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) No. 5 Service Flying Training School.

Fonds consists of three files with photocopies of Douglas Seaman Boyle's journal when he served as a Midshipman aboard the HMS Diomede (9 October 1941-21 July 1942), the HMS Wolsey (1 September-18 December 1942), and the HMCS Iroquois (27 December 1942-15 February 1943) during the Second World War. Midshipman Boyle's journal contains maps and sketches, and his observations of daily life aboard ship.

Fonds consists of Fortress Orders for the Military District No. 6 (HQ Halifax) from the period 1908 to 1909 that are catalogued as 95/82 and three original volumes of Fortress Orders for the Military District No. 6 (HQ Halifax) from the period 1914 to 1916 that are catalogued as 2003/42. The Fortress Orders consist of instructions regarding garrison duties, mobilization, gun practice, rations, court martials as well as inspections of CEF units, etc. The three volumes from 1914 to 1916 also include one colour image entitled “Canadian Soldier” from the painting by Lilias Torrance Newton, RCA.

Fonds consists of service bulletins, addendums, and manuals regarding aviation instruments. Files one and two contain the "Bendix Aviation Corporation (Eclipse Pioneer Division) Instrument Overhaul Catalog, Vol. 3." This catalogue regards overhaul instructions on: autosyns, gyro flight instruments, rate of climb indicators, compasses, and flight plan control. File three contains an "Instrument Parts Catalogue," which lists quantities of the service parts and service assembly drawings for various Pioneer products. File four contains the "Instrument Overhaul Catalogue, Vol. 1," and includes similar topics to those in Files one and two. It includes large portions of "Catalog L" but also instructions regarding parts from engines, electrical parts, and generator parts. Files five through eight are loose bulletins, service bulletins and addendums regarding flight instruments, magnesyns, oxygen regulators, and the autopilot feature.

Fonds consists of a Department of National Defence statement of requirements for the “Design and Production for the Heading System for the AN/SGS-505 Variable Depth Towed Body” [92/169]. The document outlines the guidelines for the production of the heading system, including required inspection, testing, packaging and technical specifications. Also includes Ammunition Directives 1/66 and 2/66 [2003/48]. Ammunition Directive 1/66 explained that directives were issued to communicate technical information and advice to ammunition personnel and users on an urgent basis, and to disseminate information relating to improper use of unsafe practices. Ammunition Directive 2/66 was about inspection requirements for the 10.3 CM Flare Rocket.

Fonds consists of seven documents: one book and six booklets. The book is entitled titled “Royal Air Force Manual of Army Co-Operation”, is a second edition, and is part of the Air Ministry’s “Air Publication” series [Air Publication 1176]. It deals principally with the work of army cooperation squadrons and kite balloons for 1932, but it also describes such reconnaissance duties as may be carried out by bomber squadrons. Five booklets are indexes to the Air Ministry Confidential Orders (AMCOs) for 1925-1945. They contain confidential records of the regulations and rules pertaining to the administration of the Air ministry at the time, including information on: nomenclature for equipment including aircraft, and radar stations; reclassification of publications; and regulations (2003/52). The final booklet concerns the heraldic insignia, namely badges and mottoes, used by squadrons within the Royal Air Force, the Royal Canadian Air Force and the Royal New Zealand Air Force between 1936 and 1944. Along with a brief description of the badges, the reason for design, the motto and the authority that is associated with the unit, the report provides a detailed foreword discussing the symbolic importance of heraldry within the Armed Forces (75/512).

Fonds provides an overview of the Persian Gulf War, which includes aspects such as the planning of the war, targets, air deployment and Iraqi military capabilities. It also illustrates the types of weapons that were used during the war. In the last several sections, it discusses the accomplishments of the air war, its impacts on the Iraqi army and the number of casualties on both sides.

Fonds consists of material regarding the history of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Construction Engineering Branch (CEB) from 1924-1964. It includes several drafts of the history of the branch, background documents, reports, photographs and recollection of officers and men who served in it. The documents included in the history of the CEB include reports on Canada and the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan, the Construction Maintenance Unit, which gave way for the eventual development of the CEB, detailed information on RCAF air stations, and overviews of advisory meetings where the creation of a detailed historical outline of the CEB was discussed. In addition, the fonds includes a history of the Royal Canadian Navy Civil Engineering Branch.

John Francis Dunn fonds

Fond consists of photocopies of personal recollections of John Francis Dunn, newspaper articles, photographs, and various documents relating to the Allied Convoys that were a part of the Naval Service Operations in the Arctic Waters from 1941 to 1945, especially the winter of 1944-1945. There are newspaper articles and pertinent information relating to Allied ships that were sunk during there operations. There are also documents pertaining to the German U-boats that were in the area at this time, lists of specific submarines and their activities. Some information relating to the invasion of Normandy is also included, such as the signals used and the actions of the United States Coast Guards in this operation. Also included is some information concerning Dunn’s activities with the public service of New York City and some personal paraphernalia.
