Carnegie family fonds
CA ON00009 F 103 · Fonds · 1774-1940

Fonds consists of textual material created, received and collected by members of the Carnegie family.

Fonds includes correspondence (1781- 1940) written to various members of the Carnegie family over several generations. Prior to 1833 the correspondence originates from Scotland. After this date, much of the correspondence is written from Canada to Scotland, and largely deals with family matters and experiences as immigrants to Canada.

Remainder of fonds consists of a variety of textual materials. These include documents on the political career of Hillyard Cameron (1902); legal documents pertaining to a plantation owned by David Carnegie, as well as documents dealing with wills and the assignment of trustees and estate settlements.

Also included in the textual material is a Carnegie Family Genealogy, covering the period 1728-1974, a biography of John Hilliard Carnegie by Sir Charles G.D. Roberts (1939), a baptism certificate, and information on painters and art owned by the Carnegies (1850-1919). As well, there are four election returns appointing John Hilliard Carnegie to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario (1894-1908), a copy of an order-in- council respecting certain roads in the Township of Bexley, newspaper clippings, receipts, a cancelled cheque, two notes to the "Conductor of the farmer's magasin", a souvenir programme from Liverpool Seaman's Orphanage, and a seed brochure.
