Collection consists of city directories, which since 1875, have made up of two parts: an alphabetic listing of people’s last names giving their occupation and home address and of street names. The directories may also contain advertisements of local area businesses and brief facts on population and average household income. Earlier directories included communities other than Guelph such as Erin, Peel, Minto and Puslinch Townships.

The directories are arranged chronologically by year.

The Guelph Public Library does not have directories available for the years 1910, 1946, 1948, 1950, 1952, 1954, 1956, 1958, 1960, 1962, and 1965.

This collection consists of audio visual materials collected by the Guelph Public Library archives. These records cover a wide range of topics covering various aspects of the City of Guelph and its history. Included are materials created by Edward Johnson, the Guelph Light Opera Company, the Guelph Youth Orchestra, and Tamarack. Fonds also contains Roger's television episodes, the unveiling and dedication of a sculpture commemorating John Galt, the histories of Eden Mills, St. Joseph's Hospital, and Guelph's covered bridge.

Collection consists of architectural plans of Guelph businesses, recreational facilities, and military instillations. They include the Stone Road Plaza, Knortigh Plaza, the Guelph Armoury and the branch libraries.

R.P. Brimmell collection

This collection consists of correspondence, books, articles, pamphlets, photographs and clippings collected by R.P. (Dick) Brimmell that document a range of events and subjects in the history of Guelph. Included are files on the 11th field regiment, Italian-Canadians in Guelph, material collected in Mr. Brimmell's capacity as a newspaper columnist, the Guelph Civic Arts Centre construction, the 16th battery, public schooling in Guelph, and the City's coat of arms.

These records also contain an assortment of administrative and executive records from a variety of clubs and organizations in which Mr. Brimmell participated. These include the Guelph Cricket Club, the Guelph Pipe Band, the Guelph Wellington Men's Club, and the Guelph Community Boating Club.

The photographs in this collection include aerial photographs of Guelph, pictures of homes, construction projects, military exercises and events and local landmarks and personalities.

Records are arranged by subject.

Collection consists primarily of deeds and mortgages pertaining to land and administrative transactions in the Guelph area. Many of the records in this collection deal with the properties located on lot 13 Albert Street of the Thompson Survey or with properties on lots 48 and 49 on the north side of Quebec Street.

This collection also contains records related to the property at 72 Macdonell Street consisting of mortgage papers, deeds and a floor plan. Also included are deeds issued by the Canada Company. Other records include marriage licenses and certificates, an adoption agreement, a bankruptcy notice, and wills.

Collection consists of letters, photographs, and postcards received by way of correspondence between Linda Kearns, former archivist, and Jim G. Dempsey. The photographs and postcards are of soldiers in military dress or uniform. Included are pictures of William Pearson a Guelph native who died in the First World War. Other photographs include civilians, possibly relatives of Mr. Dempsey, and photographs of a pilgrimage he took to the battlefields of the First World War in the 1980s.

The textual components consist of three letters one written by William Pearson and another by a comrade who served with him. A third letter was addressed to Mrs. Pearson by an army chaplain. This letter provided news of her son’s death. Also of interest is a Guelph Evening Mercury Newspaper edition with an article about William Pearson’s death.

This collection consists of periodicals collected by the Guelph Public Library Archives. Titles include His Guelph, Her Guelph and At Home in Guelph, My Guelph at Home, and Guelph Life. These magazines focus on the people and events in Guelph and Wellington County. Included are articles written about local writers, artists, entrepreneurs, public servants, and academics. Records are arranged chronologically by date.

This collection consists of photographs collected by the Guelph Public Library archives. The photographs are primarily studio portraits of unidentified persons mounted to cards of various sizes. Some of these photographs are full length portraits while others are only of an individual’s head and shoulders.

The photographs are examples of works by local photographers including Burgess and Son, P. Dobereiner, and W. Marshall. The cards include information pertaining to the photographer such as his address. On the reverse of some of the cards are unique designs likely used as a form of advertisement.

Collection consists of photographs and corresponding textual records for an inventory of homes built in Guelph before 1927. The inventory was created and/or accumulated by Gordon Couling, an artist and architectural expert.

Records are arranged alphabetically into series by street name and then generally by street number, often with even numbered buildings filed separately from odd numbered buildings.

This collection consists of cookbooks collected by the Guelph Public Library archives. Some of the cookbooks include brief histories on the organizations that sponsored or created them. These records document the historical and or sociological aspects of food and nutrition in Guelph.

The collection consists of various Canada Company land grants and deeds, some of which do not relate to Guelph or Wellington County. Also included in this collection are indentures for bargain and sale, newspaper clippings, petitions, memoranda, receipts, arrest warrants and correspondence, some of which relates to Guelph Barrister, Kenneth McLean. These records document the varied historical interests of Alex Moon.

Collection consists of ceramic ornaments, souvenir tea cups, and plates related to the history of Guelph. A number of the objects contain the image of the Guelph (Carnegie) Public Library or of the City of Guelph’s original coat of arms with the latin inscription "Fides, Professio, Fidelitas". Other plates include the city’s current coat of arms recreated in the late 1970s. Included in this collection is a dollar coin created for Guelph's sesquicentennial in 1977.

Collection consists of print drawings by various artists documenting Guelph’s history. Included are works by Robert Hamilton of the Bank of Montreal, City Hall, Central School, and Guelph Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute. Other works are views of Carden street and St. George’s Square and created by Steve Soule. Lastly there are prints of the Guelph Armoury and the Church of Our Lady by J. Moriarity.
