Fonds consists of records of various members of the Baby family, and are mainly concerned with the management of land assets, military activities, affairs of business and political involvements. Fonds includes correspondence; records regarding gifts of land, land leases, land grants, land sales, and land agreements; commissions; an affidavit; an account of damage to Francis Baby's property; a return of those killed and injured from the 2nd Regiment of the Essex Militia at the Battle of River Raisin; an Oath of Allegiance to King George III (including a list of those who have signed the oath); a passport to enter Quebec; returns of pay, lodging money and effective horses; bonds; estate settlement records; power of attorney records; military instructions; and a warrant of delivery for the extradition of Alexander Carter, a fugitive from Indiana. Fonds also contains a genealogical chart tracing the Baby family from 1590 to 1946, indicating variants of the Baby name, including Baby de Ranville, Babie and Baubie. The family tree complements the documents in the fonds by identifying names associated with the Baby family through marriage, including the Reaume, Hands and Wilson families.
