This fonds consists of the executive, administrative, public service, collections management and facilities records created or accumulated the Guelph Public Library Board, the Guelph Public Library, and its predecessor, the Farmers' and Mechanics' Institute of Guelph. The records document the administration and operation of the Library and its provision of library services to the Guelph public.

This collection consists of local Guelph newsletters created by various organizations and collected by the Guelph Public Library Archives. Included are the newsletters Arts in Guelph, the Sentinel and newsletters produced by the Guelph Historical Society. These records document the various activities and programs offered by local area organizations.

Publicity and promotion records

Sub-series consists of publicity and promotional materials produced by the Guelph Public Library. Included in this sub-series are library program guides, flyers and brochures, library stationery, the Guelph Public Library newsletter, the Connections magazine, the contents of the 1903 datestone, index to the 1965 datestone and records relating to Library's 125th anniversary celebrations. Also included are audio tapes of the book review series and notes from talks about Guelph given on the local radio station, CKLA. These records document the Guelph's Public Library's public outreach activities and promotional programs.

Photographic Material and Miscellaneous Research Material

Series consists of the photographic material and miscellaneous research material for The Creation of a National Air Force written by W.A.B. Douglas. Series includes photographic prints, a list of negative numbers, invoices for photo order forms, and RCAF [Royal Canadian Air Force] Vol. 2 Maps. Some subjects of the prints include the BCATP [British Commonwealth Air Training Plan] and the submarine attack by 113 (BR) [Bomber Reconnaissance] Squadron.


Series consists material containing J.D. Prentice’s personal manuscripts of children’s and young adult stories. It includes the CBC broadcast scripts that Prentice was a part of. Included is a manuscript for Teddy’s Story, a children’s novella that was published by Lovat Dickson Limited, London in 1937. Other manuscripts that were written throughout the interwar period are also included. Some of the major subjects include: military bases in Newfoundland, First World War in Russia, New Zealand, the manuscripts by Prentice and the merchant marine. A description for each manuscript prepared by Alison Prentice is included at the beginning of the series. Thereafter, the remaining series is organized in alphabetical order by file title.
