Robert Starbird Dorney fonds

The fonds consists of textual and visual materials created and received by Dorney over the course of his career, including drafts and reprints of most of his published writings, teaching and course materials, audio-visual materials, framed items, ephemera and realia. Of interest is an original map by Dorney which attempts to reconstruct the original vegetation patterns in North Dumfries Township in Waterloo County in the 19th century. Dorney's collection of ca. 4,500 slides is particularly significant in its documentation of natural vegetation, urban impact and areas of ecological interest both locally and elsewhere and includes extensive documentation of the "mini-forest" at his home at 124 Amos Ave. in Waterloo. Contents: eight notebooks used by Tony Urquhart to record daily activities, ideas, etc. They include ms. notes, including trip notes and diary entries, quotes, drawings and sketches (some col.), clippings and ephemera, and photographs. They include drawings by his daughter, Emily Urquhart, as well as renderings of and notes concerning artwork of others and artwork of his own.
Also included in this accession is material relating to Matt Cohen's In Search of Leonardo published in 1985 at the Coach House Press, and for which Tony Urquhart did the illustrations. Included are proof and final versions of the entire work as well as etchings and proof copies of illustrations.

Jo Davis fonds

Material primarily focused on Jo Davis' work as co-founder, vice-president, etc., of the Canadian women's group known as the "Voice of Women". Davis was actively involved from 1960 to 1963. The group still exists but Davis is no longer involved.

Included here are correspondence, memos, briefs, speeches and clippings which document the change in focus of the group from its early years--a change which ultimately resulted in Davis' resignation (January 22, 1963). Included on many folders or individual pieces of correspondence are Davis' notes, done in 1990, which reveal a unique perspective of early events.

The fonds also contains groups of papers documenting Davis' interests prior to her work with the Voice of Women (World Refugee Year), projects concomitant with VOW activities (Canadian Peace Research Institute and lnternational Cooperation Year) and projects subsequent to VOW activities (Harold King Farm and French Week). Small amounts of materials relate to Davis' current interests such as The Turnaround Decade Group.

Fonds consists of material relating to the life and career of Luella Bruce Creighton and includes correspondence, diaries, manuscripts and photographs. There is some material documenting Luella Creighton's student days at Victoria College, University of Toronto, 1924-1926. Her personal life is documented through a series of diaries, 1952-1990. Most of the textual material in the fonds, however, relates to her career as a writer of both fiction and non- fiction, and consists of corrrespondence with her publishers and readers, reviews, manuscripts and typescripts of both published and unpublished works.

Includes material relating to his work on stonefiles in the British Isles, his work for the British government in Trinidad and East Africa, his time at the University of Liverpool including work on river pollution, and his career at the University of Waterloo, including his sabbaticals in Australia. Includes a wide range of documentation, including correspondence, financial records, minutes, personnel records, reports, maps and plans and environmental monitoring records. Documentaion includes construction of the Shand and Conestogo Dams, property acquisition and management, relations and interactions with municipalities and government departments at the provincial and federal levels, flood management and monitoring, implementation and management of health care, unemployment insurance, provincial and federal taxes, rental and leasing of cottage lots and other properties, reforestation and nursery operations, management of motor vehicles and other equipment.
