Sub-series consists of annual statistics pertaining to admissions and discharges, births and deaths, operations and anaesthetics at the TGH. Admission and discharge statistics are classified by hospital building and by patients’ age, place or residence and religion.

Sub-series consists of correspondence to and from members of the Board of Trustees, legal counsel for the Trustees, and the Board Secretary. The greatest part of the materials contained in this Sub-series is correspondence from the chairman of the Board with subscribers to the TGH Building fund 1918-1934, including lists of subscribers and their commitments, letters of acknowledgment, receipts, subscription cards and invoices.

Sub-series consists of an eight-volume report jointly prepared for the Office of the Executive Director by Woods Gordon Co., Planning Consultants and Mathers and Haldenby, Architects. The report outlines plans for the “modernization and expansion of the Toronto General Hospital”, including the construction of new facilities for the TGH School of Nursing and Nurses’ Residence.

Series consists of photographs accumulated by the Public Affairs and Communications department from their predecessor departments. Files 3.6.1 to 3.6.5 are large composite class photographs of students in the Armed Service Radiologists School at the Toronto General Hospital. Files 3.6.6 to 3.6.7 are photographs that were originally mounted and framed for display and had exhibit captions affixed to the back of one of the frames. The caption for file 3.6.6 read:

The first of a series of photographs taken in the early 1940s. Most likely taken as a marketing tool for the Private Patient’s Pavilion (now called the Main Pavilion). View taken from the south, the Fell Pavilion now sits on the driveway.

“One of the world’s most powerful electron microscopes has been installed in Canada’s leading cancer research centre as the centennial gift of The Canada Life Assurance Company. Here Dr. T.C. Brown, chief pathologist of Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, examines the 3,200-pound instrument with A. H. Lemmon, president of Canada Life and president of the Canadian Life Insurance Association. The EM 300 will be used in the fight against cancer, arthritis, muscle degeneration, and diseases of the kidney, liver and skin. It is capable of magnifying an image 500,000 times.” 1967 photograph label.

Sub-series consists of press clippings files, principally taken from Toronto newspapers, with articles and photographs relating to the TGH. Clippings were pasted in scrapbooks and arranged alphabetically by subject.

File 1.3.5 contains minutes of sub-committees to consider practical issues relating to the plans to move the TGH to its College St./University Avenue location: Committee to Consider the Reorganization of the TGH Constitution and Government; Committee to Consider Provisions for Treating Pulmonary Tuberculosis at TGH; Building Committee (re: choosing an architect); and the Committee on the Reorganization of the Medical Staff. File 1.3.6 contains a series of excerpts from the minutes of the Board of Trustees March 1926-April 1930, concerning plans for expansion, the building fund campaign, construction and opening of new buildings.

File 4.15.1 contains summary minutes of meetings of the Medical Advisory Board October 1960 to November 1966, prepared for the information of the TGH Board of Trustees.

Sub-series consists of correspondence, chiefly letters of request and approval for expenditures from the Hospital’s annual Special Capital Grant allocation. Much of the correspondence involves the Office of the Superintendent and the Ontario Hospital Services Commission, Hospital Grants Division, the body responsible for administering the Special Capital Grants allocated to Ontario hospitals on an annual basis. Sub-series consists of various materials relating to the ceremonies opening the new TGH Neurosurgical Unit in the Center Block Building (Norman Urquhart Wing) November 8, 1958. File 22.3.1 contains a commemorative booklet edited by Dr. T.P. Morley containing a transcription of speeches; a bibliography of the papers of Dr. K.G. McKenzie; and a description of the Unit, illustrated by drawings. File 22.3.2 contains a sound recording (audio-cassette tape) of speeches delivered during the opening ceremonies, as recorded by Dr. R. Tasker: duration of the recording is approximately 55 minutes. File 22.3.3 contains a program of the opening ceremonies.

Sub-series consists of documents relating to the lease, mortgage, sale etc. of properties owned, occupied or managed by the Trustees of the Toronto General Hospital and documents relating to the management and disposition of estates endowed to the Trustees of the Toronto General Hospital, including wills and letters probate. Sub-series also includes a ledger of lessees to the Toronto General Hospital.

File 1.9.31 contains original deeds conveying property to the Trustees of the York Hospital (later the Toronto General Hospital) 1822-1850.

Sub-series consists of minutes of clinic staff meetings, policy statements and medical notes issued by clinic administrators for the direction of staff in providing treatment and complying with Ontario Department of Health regulations and procedures concerning the reporting and treatment of venereal disease cases, correspondence of the Director of the Clinic, and statistics compiled by the Clinic documenting the volume and type of treatment provided.
