Fonds consists of a microfilm copy of a hand printed copy of the diary of Captain William Johnson, compiled by Mrs. J. Grant Thompson, a great- granddaughter of Johnson. The diary entries relate to: the weather; the health of various family members; daily farm activities, such as hoeing, ploughing, planting, chopping wood, and hiring farm help; local travel; local settlement; expenditures; the Rebellion of 1837, the founding of a Sunday School; and the formation of an agricultural society. Copy of diary also contains some biographical information regarding Johnson, as well as Mrs. J. Grant Thompson’s notes relating to the diary.

Johnson, William, 1784-1851

Joseph H. Wooley fonds

Fonds consists of a microfilmed five volume diary of Joseph H. Wooley. He began writing the diary in 1861 at the age of 17 and continued, with interruptions, at least until 1898. As well as the day to day chores of farm operation (such as farm repairs, breaking horses, threshing, and chopping wood), the diary records his personal, religious and recreational activities in some detail. The names of people he knew and had business with are mentioned, as are unusual events, such as the visit of a circus. Sections of each volume were reserved for the recording of farm and household expenses and the particulars of financial dealings with other members of the community. A portion of volume 2 contains arithmetical and penmanship exercises. A portion of volume l has been transcribed, and this transcript has been microfilmed before volume 1.

Fonds consists of the microfilmed diaries of James Cameron, written while he resided on James Cameron Island. Diary entries relate to: the weather; farming (including wood cutting and the care of farm animals); hunting; trade; shipping; fishing; social visits; trips to Williamstown; and local news. Diaries also include mathematics exercises, penmanship exercises, hand written sheet music, and hand copied essays and poems. Also included are some loose items, including: receipts; an advertising letter from the Curzon Brothers (tailors); family correspondence; accounts; and a child’s drawings and exercises.

The cashbook contains lists of members and dues paid, as well as expenses (such as salaries, stationery supplies, and postage).

Fonds consists of a minutebook and a cash book of the Township of Puslinch Farmers’ Club. Included in the minutebook are lists of paid members and the executive of the Club, constitution and bylaws, newspaper clippings and a program regarding meetings, and minutes. Minutebook also contains minutes of some meetings of the South Wellington Farmers’ Institute, as well as minutes of some joint meetings of this Institute and the Puslinch Farmers’ Club. Also included are lists of members of the South Wellington Farmers’ Institute for 1889 and 1890. Cash book contains detailed lists of cash brought in by the Club, as well as expenses. Also included in the cash book are the accounts of the South Wellington Farmers’ Institute for 1895, containing similar information as the accounts for the Puslinch Farmers’ Club.

Fonds consists of correspondence and other records of the law firm run by James Small, and then by James Small and James Gowan, from the years 1824-1845, as well as other records of James Gowan, and some correspondence of John Small (James Small's father). Records of the law firm include letters, bills, receipts, notes on cases, writs, summonses, bonds, leases, mortgages, indentures and estate documents. Fonds also includes letters relating to Gowan's removal to Barrie in 1843 and his position there as Judge; correspondence to and from Robert Baldwin and Oliver Mowat as Attorneys- General; correspondence and notes concerning judicial legislation with which Gowan was involved, 1873-1876, as a member of the Statute Revision Committee. Fonds also contains some general correspondence of James Gowan and of James Small, including: a letter concerning the destruction of Mackenzie's printing press, 1826; references to Indian lands, 1835-1846; a description of Toronto and Upper Canada written to an Irish friend, 1842; and a petition of the Ontario County Court Judges to Sir John A. Macdonald. Other references or correspondents include the Quebec City election of 1841; the Rebellion of 1837; Fort Henry at Kingston; Ogle R. Gowan; the Hon. C.S. Patterson; and Justice John Beverley Robinson. Also included are some records of John Small (father of James Small), Clerk of the Executive Council, including some receipts of money loaned by Small.

Fonds consists primarily of various records of the law firm Kelly and Porter, but also includes some personal records of the Kelly and Porter families. Law firm records contain incoming correspondence, and outgoing correspondence blotter-copy letterbooks and carbon copies. Also included are client case files, relating mostly to local Division Court cases, Ontario Supreme Court cases, and settlements of estates in Surrogate Court. These files are arranged in alphabetical order. Records of the firm also include clients' real estate records (containing deeds, mortgages, and related records), clients' legal records (including contracts, agreements, insurance policies, and other related records), and records regarding the management of the office (consisting mostly of financial records, particularly cancelled cheques). Family and personal records include family histories, a diary, scrapbooks, correspondence, two copies of an unidentified portrait photograph, income tax records, and records relating to various community organizations, including: the Canadian Lacrosse Association, the County Law Library Association, the Catholic Mutual Benefit Association, the County Crown Attorney's Association, the Ontario Minimum Wage Board, the Simcoe Liberal Executive, the Simcoe Public Library, the Norfolk County Council, and the Norfolk Masonic Lodge.

Fonds consists of photographs and textual records pertaining to Tom Kennedy's activities as a soldier and while a Member of the Ontario Legislature.

Photographs include portraits and depict Kennedy at various public events with friends, colleagues and members of the public. Included are photos of George Drew and Leslie Frost.

Fonds includes an album of photographs, mainly containing publicity shots taken by W.D. Tolton of the Extension Department of the Ontario Agricultural College during a tour by Kennedy to the "Clay Belt" area of Ontario. Areas depicted include New Liskeard, Fraser Beach, Engleheart, Heaslip, Schumacher, Matheson, Lac Ste. Therese, Skillington, Porquois Junction, Kapuskasing and Hearst. Subjects of these photos are chiefly fields and farm buildings, experimental farms near New Liskeard and Kapuskasing, a hydroelectric dam at Smooth Rock falls, a sawmill, a trading post near Lac Ste. Therese, and two French Canadian families experiencing economic hardship.

Fonds also includes textual material, primarily dealing with Kennedy's role as Member of the Ontario Legislature. These records include correspondence regarding constituency matters; various speeches, statistics and reports regarding agriculture; personal diaries and scrapbooks.
