Collection consists of research material on the Avro Arrow and the FHE 400 Hydrofoil Ship. Includes papers regarding the escape system and the pilots’ cockpit in the Avro aircraft in the late 1950s, as well as files on human engineering and problems associated with low speed low level air navigation in the early 1960s. There are also two files dealing with hydrofoils and regarding the human engineering of Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) ships during 1962-1963 and including a 1965 design report for the RCN.

Fonds consists of correspondence with the former director of the Directorate of History and Heritage, W.A.B. Douglas, re Donald C. Bowie’s personal papers. In these letters the two discuss Bowie’s personal account which he published as, “Captive Surgeon in Hong Kong: The Story of the British Military Hospital, Hong Kong, 1942-1945” and his plans for his personal papers. Please note that the fonds does not include a copy of the personal account.

Fonds consists of transcriptions of letters and copies of photographs sent home by Lionel Austen-Leigh from his time on HMSC CC-1. The letters date from the beginning of Austen-Leigh’s time on HMSC CC-1 in 1914 to his discharge in 1915. There are two black and white photographs included with the letters. One photograph is of the submarine CC-1. The other photograph is of the submarine’s crew. Finally there is a photocopy of one of the original letters which contains a hand-drawn image of the submarine.

Fonds consists of John Buchan (Lord Tweedsmuir)’s personal account of the beginning of the Sicily campaign, specifically the battle of Assoro. The record begins in June 1943 when Buchan was informed that he was second-in-command of the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment of the Canadian Army. The record then follows Buchan and the regiment as they begin the Sicily campaign. The record ends on 23 July 1943 at the end of the battle of Assoro. Buchan included the accounts of Farley Mowat and Angus B. Duffy in his narrative to flesh out his narrative on the campaign. Also includes a newspaper clipping dated 1989 on the Sicilian campaign and the Hastings and Prince Edward Regiment.

Fonds consists of 1 published volume regarding the early volunteer militia of Brant County, Ontario during 1856- 1866. Includes information on the roots of the militia in Brant County; significant experiences of the militia, including the Fenian invasion of 1866; descriptions of the units of service, including rifle, infantry, truck and railway companies; and the creation of the 38th Brant Battalion of Infantry. Also includes illustrations and personal recollections of former reserves. Fonds provides officer lists of companies within the county including those awarded medals, militia acts, general orders, memoranda, weapons, and uniforms at this time. There is also a photocopy of the July 1944 issue of the "Brantford Skyline". The issue was published by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) No. 5 Service Flying Training School.

Fonds consists of six publications / newsletters of the 2 Technical Regiment, RCEME(M) and entitled “Two Tech. Tradesman”. They date from 1959 to 1962. In the publication, there is a summary of what the regiment did during a certain period of time and what will happen in their future. Also includes pictures of the regiment and the newsletter also publish a small article on the soldier of the month.

Fonds consist of four briefs for the Honourable Mr. Mayhew which discuss the status of the Royal Canadian Navy, Royal Canadian Air Force and the Canadian Army, as well as the status of the Canadian Forces in the Far East. Included are brief histories of Canadian military activity in Korea since the beginning of the Korean War, biographical sketches of principle Officers serving in Korea, and statistical reports on battle casualties, broken down by army unit and classification of casualty. Also included are descriptions of recreational activities offered to maintain the well-being of personnel, and lists of honours and awards given to personnel.

Fonds consists of: oversize binders of drawing of site plans for CFB Halifax during 1984-1989; station photographic plans of bases for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in 1950 and during 1957-1962; plots plans for naval establishments during 1961-1965; and miniature site plans for Canadian Forces Bases Halifax, Moncton, Esquimalt and Canadian Forces Stations Shelburne, St. John’s and Masset during 1988-1991.

Fonds consists of Part V of “Reminiscences” written by Dudley Gawen King in 1993, detailing naval operations and his life with the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) during the Second World War’s military campaign Battle of the Atlantic. This book is divided into five sections spanning from 1939 to 1945:

1) 1939 – April 1941 covers his active services in Esquimalt, Prince Rupert, and Halifax.
2) April 1941 – September 1942 consists of his command of HMCS Arvida, and HMCML Q-054. He also details the loss of HMCS Ottawa.
3) September 1942 – May 1943 recounts Arvida’s refit in Lunenburg Nova Scotia, the escorts of Convoy’s SC-101, ON-137, SS Bury, SC-107, and HX-233.
4) May 1943 – March 1944 covers Escort Group C-5 (Fifth Canadian Escort Group), Arvida’s refit in Maryland, and the German Naval Acoustic Torpedo (GNAT).
5) March 1944 – November 1945 covers HMCS Stettler, the Support Group EG-16, the loss of HMCS Magog and the Gribaltar convoys.

There is an additional sixth section where King examines the RCN and The Battle of the Atlantic in retrospect, and three appendices.

Fonds consist of a First World War typescript diary and two photograph albums by Lieutenant Cyprian Herbert Andrews that documents his service with the Royal Flying Corps (RFC). Andrews’ diary spans from the 30 September, 1917 – 6 February, 1918. He records his experiences in the diary with the RFC through the various squadrons: 83 Squadron, 90 C.T.S, 91 C.T.S, and 87 C.T.S. He also documents his cadet training at the School of Military Aeronautics and his flight experiences across different locations. The photographs albums accompany his diary on life in the RFC, and includes pictures of the various camps, classes, locations, planes and fellow RFC members Andrews encounters.

Fonds consists of 11 volumes of Squadron records during 1944 to 1945. Volumes 1-2 include operational reports (opreps) consisting of daily reports from 441 Squadron to various headquarters, including the Royal Air Force (RAF), Allied Expeditionary Air Force, and 144 Airfield. Also includes volumes regarding flight logs, honours and awards, flying accidents, casualties, the Squadron unit badge and monthly training and flying returns. Volume 4 includes the returns of the pilots’ flying times and is classified.

Fonds consists of a booklet entitled “GM of Canada War Album”. The booklet consists of a picture album intended to highlight the contributions of General Motors of Canada and its employees towards the war effort from 1939 to 1945. The black and white photographs depict the various vehicles and military equipment produced, as well as some examples of war posters and propaganda.

Fonds consists of flight log, range chart, information sheet and a large map regarding Trip 599, the last flight for 426 Squadron from Shemya, Alaska to Haneda, Japan on 2 June 1954 during the Korean War.

Fonds consists of the charge sheet the continuation sheets of Abd Al Hadi Al-Iraqi, a former al Qaeda leader who was charged with the alleged involvement in the killing of a Canadian soldier, Cpl Jamie Murphy on 27 January 2004. Also includes a CBC news article of the accused and his arraignment.
