Part of Cullen Gardens and Miniature Village fonds

The series contains records related to Cullen Gardens and Miniature Village's radio, television, and print advertising campaigns, particularly throughout the 1980s and early 1990s. Records were also generated as a result of specific promotional activities for the opening of various site features or special events. Finally, some records were not primarily promotional in intent but were intended to communicate information to employees of Cullen companies and the general public regarding site alterations or corporate changes.

Records are arranged in subject files. Documentary forms include the following: Event invitations and agendas; press releases; restaurant menus; Cullen Gardens newspapers for visitors; Cullen Gardens support manuals for educators; souvenir booklets and calendars; brochures; tour mailings and rate cards; magazine articles; posters; employee newsletters; television advertisements recorded on videocassette; raw footage of the gardens for eventual use in television advertisements, also on videocassette; special promotional features for television on videocassette; and radio advertisements and specials on audiocassette.

Series consists photographs depicting the lives of the Smith and Pascoe families in Whitby. Early photographs portray the lives of the Smith family at their Bayside farm residence, while later photographs depicted Mildred Pascoe, her family, Whitby. Series also contains photographs of distant relatives and notable locations around Whitby, including Heydenshore at Lake Ontario, Whitby High School, and the now-defunct Whitby Jail.

Alexander McPherson fonds

The majority of the letters were written while he held the position of Manager at Plantation Nos. 17 & 18 in Berbice, British Guiana and the remainder represent the period following when he settled at Whitby.

Series includes a pledge book (1883-1893), which lists the dates members took pledges and dates of death or suspension, and a roll book (1883-1886). This series also contains petitions and declarations for membership, and branch transfer certificates.

Series consists of the diary kept by Kay Irwin, club secretary, during the team’s trip to Europe for the World Ice Hockey Championship. She wrote about the team’s progress in the hockey tournament and her daily activities while visiting London, Frankfurt, Sweden, Oslo, Zurich, and Paris. Series also includes items found within the diary including cards and an itinerary.

Series consists a DVD containing a documentary in Russian of the 1958 World Ice Hockey Championship in Oslo. Footage follows the Soviet Union team throughout the tournament and contains clips of the games. Series also consists of a CD containing digitized photographs from the archival collection of the Whitby Dunlops. There is also a slideshow, a short movie, and photos of the team from 2008.

Correspondence contains the incoming and outgoing letters of Alan Dewar, secretary of the Camp X Military Museums Board of Directors. Letters discuss the purpose of the organization, fundraising, and future plans. The majority of letters focus on inviting important people to a dinner held in January 1978 to introduce the plans for the Museum to potential donors and members of the government. Administrative records consist of meeting agendas, minutes, by-laws, and letters of incorporation. Publications includes two published newsletters of the Camp X Military Museums Society.

The fonds consists of operational and commemorative records related to Cullen Gardens and Miniature Village. Many operational records were created as Leonard Cullen and other staff developed and advertised the organization's site in Whitby, Ontario. Commemorative records preserve views of the site's grounds, seasonal displays, building interiors, and events. Additionally, the fonds contains some personal records from Leonard Cullen, most of which pertain to his involvement in the Baptist Convention of Ontario and Quebec and the Baptist Leadership Education Centre in Whitby. The fonds consists of four series: Site Maintenance and Expansion; Personal Writings and Baptist Community Involvement of Leonard Cullen; Promotions; and Photographs.
