Fonds John Arnold

Le fonds comprend des documents relatifs au projet de construction du hall d’honneur de l’ARC au Musée national de l’aviation (maintenant le Musée de l’aviation et de l’espace du Canada), lorsque John Arnold a agi en tant que conseiller en conception et conseiller artistique. Les documents comprennent des propositions d’artistes et d’architectes, une ébauche du rapport de John Arnold au Fonds du mémorial de l’ARC, des dessins techniques, des photos, des notes sur des réunions et autres sujets, et de la correspondance avec les différents acteurs du projet. De façon générale, le fonds est classé dans l’ordre où il a été reçu, comme en témoigne l’inventaire préliminaire annoté qui a été ajouté à la fin des dossiers originaux. The fonds consists of military records related to Ex-Major R.D. Montgomery, as well as a copy of “Deeds That Stirred The Empire” reprinted by “The Daily Chronicle”, during WWI. A letter from the Royal Canadian Military Institute explaining the records is also included.

Dr. F. W. Luney fonds

The Dr. F. W. Luney fonds consists of 14 series (and 2 subseries) of records chronicling his scholarly beginnings as a medical student at the University of Western Ontario, his appointment as Senior Pathologist at Victoria Hospital, and the extent of his professional career as Clinical Laboratory Chief at St. Joseph’s Hospital until his retirement in 1961. During his career, Dr. Luney would enlist in the Canadian Army Medical Services Division during WWI, establish a Clinical Pathology Laboratory at St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1928, conduct extensive research in blood transfusion techniques, direct the opening of the Blood Bank Department and St. Joseph’s Hospital in 1945, establish private consulting services for smaller hospitals in southern Ontario, and create the Dr. F. W. Luney Fund to raise funds for the Medical Library at St. Joseph’s Hospital. Records of note include: well-maintained, original photographs of Dr. Luney and fellow classmates posing with a cadaver; records created to document body parts and organs donated to Luney’s private “Museum”; personal notebooks outlining his medical training and professional experiences; a selection of diplomas and certificates; records of his $5,000 donation to the Medical Library at St. Joseph’s Hospital; photographs depicting the two-person multiple syringe apparatus he invented; notes from lectures and seminars that he gave on pathology and blood transfusion-related subjects; and a 60th anniversary portrait of Dr. F. W. Luney with his fellow 1914 graduates.

Benjamin and Mary Avery fonds

The Benjamin and Mary Avery fonds contains textual records, photographs, maps and documentation mostly relating to Benjamin Avery’s accomplishments as a Forester and administrator. While some of the photographs depict his stay at Yale and his participation in sports, most are of meetings with administrators of different pulp and paper companies. The newspaper clippings and correspondence pay tribute and document his different roles and achievements in the sector of forestry.

Birth certificate, certificate of Naturalization, and US Army records with diaries documenting 5 years of Mr. Avery’s daily life offer insight into his private life.

The personal and public tributes after his death and the naming of the Benjamin F. Avery Physical Education building at Laurentian University are also well documented and outline his role and the recognition of his significant contribution to Forestry and the population of Northern Ontario.

Composé d’un certificat de baptême, de documents de l’armée canadienne, de photographies et cartes postales ainsi que de l’uniforme de l’armée canadienne, le fonds d’archives Élorie Trottier documente le temps qu’il a été aux services de l’armée canadienne, en Europe durant la Première Guerre Mondiale. En effet, les documents tels que ‘Canadian Pay Book’, ‘Dispersal Certificate’ et l’uniforme de l’Armée canadienne témoignent du temps qu’il a été aux services de l’Armée canadienne. Les photographies et cartes postales de soldats canadiens et de sites et scènes de la Première Guerre illustrent certains sites et évènements importants de cette guerre. Des articles parus dans les journaux locaux rapportent les souvenirs de guerre tel que racontés par Elorie Trottier. Des articles, photographies et graphiques documentent aussi le White Star Liner ‘Olympic’, navire jumeau du Titanic, qui a transporté les soldats durant la Première Guerre.

Joseph Herman Molohon fonds

The Joseph Herman Molohon fonds consists of transcripts of two diaries (one from December 1907 to December 1908 and the second from January to December 1909) attesting to Molohon's duties as Seaman Second Class on the SS Virginia during the 14 month tour of the Great White Fleet (16 December 1907 to 22 February 1909). There are also notes on his daily work and activities after being discharged from the US Navy. Moreover the daily entries while on the SS Virginia also document many events that took place either on the ship or within the fleet, that consisted of sixteen new battleships of the Atlantic Fleet. To name a few: President Roosevelt’s presence on ship; National Salute; and burial ceremony. Molohon also offered accounts of visits to different ports of call in countries such as Egypt, Japan, Australia and Trinidad.

Camp X Military Museums fonds

Fonds consists of three series: administrative records, publications, and correspondence. Correspondence contains the incoming and outgoing letters of Alan Dewar, secretary of the Camp X Military Museums Board of Directors. Letters discuss the purpose of the organization, fundraising, and future plans. The majority of letters focus on inviting important people to a dinner held in January 1978 to introduce the plans for the Museum to potential donors and members of the government. Administrative records consist of meeting agendas, minutes, by-laws, and letters of incorporation. Publications includes two published newsletters of the Camp X Military Museums Society.

Collection comprises photographs of the two First World War Royal Flying Corps training camps at Deseronto, Ontario and notes for an unpublished book, Wings Over Deseronto, on the history of the camps. Camp Mohawk and Camp Rathbun were in operation between May 1917 and November 1918, training men to be pilots for the Western Front. The photographs in this collection are originals and reproductions depicting the aircraft, staff and cadets of the Royal Flying Corps, principally in the Deseronto camps, but also at Camps Borden and Leaside (Ontario) and Camp Taliaferro, in Fort Worth, Texas.

Fonds consists of material that documents his career as a writer and broadcaster and, as such, includes correspondence with publishers, fan mail, research material, newspaper clippings, reviews of his work, notes, drafts and galleys related to his novels and works of non-fiction. The writing files include photocopies of his own letters written to his mother when he was an internee in England and manuscript and photocopies of letters written to Koch from Daria Hambourg and used as research material for his novel, "The Brothers Hambourg". Fonds also includes transcripts of interviews as well as written reminiscences in the form of letters from many former German internees; these letters were subsequently used as resource material for his book "Deemed Suspect: A Wartime Blunder". Fonds includes a complete set of published copies of his books. The broadcasting files contain correspondence, memos, notes and drafts of scripts, scrapbooks and other material that documents his long career with the CBC.

Fonds consists of handwritten and typescript manuscripts for Falek Zolf's memoirs, handwritten notes for his memoirs, newspaper articles about Zolf and the Jewish literary community in Winnipeg, a report that quotes from his work in a review of the historical context associated with the Canada Post Corporation's Rural Conversion Program in Saskatchewan, a review of the Yiddish edition of Zolf's autobiography, "On foreign soil," and information regarding its publication in English.

Varpu Lindström fonds

Fonds consists of Lindstrom's professorial and scholarly research files throughout her career, as well as records documenting her academic activities. Research files pertain to her publications and monographs such as "Defiant Sisters : A Social History of Finnish Immigrant Women in Canada, 1890-1930" (both the English and Finnish editions), and "From Heroes to Enemies : Finns in Canada, 1937-1947," as well as book chapters, articles, papers, presentations and lectures, and her involvement with the National Film Board production "Letters from Karelia," and subsequent research. The research files span the activities of Finnish and Finnish-Canadian organizations across the political spectrum, such as the Finnish Organization of Canada (left wing), and Loyal Finns in Canada (right wing). Records include oral history interviews (audio cassettes and transcripts), research notes, clippings, a significant and extensive number of photograph and letter collections passed down through generations of Finnish Canadians, diaries, correspondence, publication drafts, academic and professorial notes, microfilm of Finnish language newspapers published in Canada and archival records, financial records of Finnish-Canadian organizations such as newspapers and post-World War II relief funding bodies, scrapbooks, photocopies of rare and unusual documents such as two volumes of a Soviet register of Finnish War Crimes, a list of persons found in the mass grave at Karhumaki, and Soviet lists of North American Finns who journeyed to Karelia to help build a socialist utopia there, academic and professorial files, publicity files, files pertaining to her work with the School of Women's Studies, and her own papers as a university student. The fonds also includes letters written by Lindstrom as a newly-arrived teenaged immigrant to Canada to her best friend in Finland; many of these letters were published in Finnish with English translation in 'Letters from an immigrant teenager' in 2012.

Item is an insignia patch from the "Sea Cadet Regatta, 1945, Port Hope", round in shape. - the patch belonged to Harold Wakely when he was a member of the Sea Cadets. - the felt patch consists of 2 parts, the outer part is of a white colour with a garland of gold coloured leaves on the outer edge. - -The inner circle is sewn to the outer piece along the edge. The blue lettering is on a white background. In the centre are crossed paddles, boxing gloves, the letter "W" in a box and two hands in a hand shake position at the top. All in the same blue at the lettering.
