Paul Grosney fonds

Fonds consists of Paul Grosney's handwritten and purchased musical arrangements of jazz and big band music for his bands. Also includes Grosney's arrangements of rock and pop songs for his bands. Some arrangements are organized by instrument and each arrangement is numbered to facilitate each musician's ability to pull the correct piece of music called out by Grosney. Other arrangements are organized by song title. Includes arrangements for classic big band pieces such as "Stompin' at the Savoy", "Moonlight Serenade," and "Air Mail Special". Also includes original compositions by Grosney for live performances and television programmes and commercials. There are also some professional correspondence and ephemera related to Grosney's career. The second accession contains audio recordings of radio shows (mostly from the 1950s and 1960s) that Grosney hosted or appeared on, commercials and Grosney's albums. Also contains photographs, some personal and family records, and newspaper clippings spanning Grosney's life and career.

The fonds consists of newspaper clippings, copies of speeches, reports, press releases, and related material issued by government bodies, public interest groups, politicians and others, which are utilized in the composition of the “Canadian annual review of politics and public affairs”, previously the “Canadian annual review”. The material is organized around the potential chapters in the review, and thus will have clippings on business and industry, reports from foreign affairs bodies (i.e. Canadian Institute for International Affairs), the editor's notes on political and economic matters gleaned from newspaper clippings, and coverage of elections at the federal and provincial levels. In addition, there are reports and newspaper clippings on specific government legislation of the day (National Energy Policy, the Meech Lake Accord, Québec Bill 101, etc), on specific foreign events (Vietnam War), and Canadian personalities (John Diefenbaker, Réne Lévesque, Pierre Trudeau), including copies of speeches delivered by politicians. The bulk of the material in the fonds covers the period, 1960-1977.

The fonds consists of correspondence and papers (1928-1959), arranged chronologically, receipts for monies received from Maurice Duplessis and others, including receipts from organizations, associations and student awards. There are also the proceedings of the meetings of the Public Accounts Committee Inquiry (1936), through which Duplessis exposed the corruption of the Liberal government of the day. The fonds also contains scrapbooks of newspaper clippings relating to political and social developments in Quebec (1929-1949) with concentration on the period, 1934-1936, as well as newspaper clippings relating to the death and funeral of Duplessis. In addition, there is correspondence with and/or concerning several prominent Quebecois including Daniel Johnson, Thibaudeau Rinfret, Msgr. Ferdinand Vandry, Georges Vanier, and companies located in the province (Dominion Textiles, Noranda Mines), and related subjects.

The fonds consists records of R.M. Fowler, including reports, correspondence, transcripts of hearing and related material from the Royal Commission on Dominion-Provincial Relations (Rowell-Sirois). This includes summary of the hearings (1937-1940), and transcripts of private sittings with the Manitoba and New Brunswick delegations (1938). In addition, there is material from Commission staff in the form of memoranda (1937-1938), precis of discussions (1938-1939), bibliographies and Orders-in-Council, tax forms and notes and estimates relating to unemployment in Canada (1938-1939). There are also copies of several reports issued by the Commission on the taxing power in Canada, debt adjustment, excise duties, and studies of federal systems in other countries.
