Series consists of documents regarding the report of the Board of Inquiry into Command, Control and Leadership of CANBAT 2. Includes the following four parts:
Part I – The Board Report 15 Nov 96;
Part II – Annexes to the Board Report (Volumes 1-9);
Part III – Records of Testimony held at NDHQ (Volumes 1-27) and Condensed Transcripts and Concordance (Volumes 1-27); and
Part IV – Exhibits of the Board Report (Volumes 1-4).

Part III Records of Testimony includes the names of the witnesses. There are also video cassettes of most of the witnesses’ testimonies. Also includes copies of the following reports:
“Thomas Report – Investigation of Delay in Investigating the Allegations of Misconduct/Poor Performance of Canadian Forces Members at the Bakovici Hospital, Bosnia-Herzegovina” prepared by Lowell E. Thomas;
“Report of the Reviewing Team: Board of Inquiry – Command, Control and Leadership in CANBAT”, and
Reports and synopses regarding the Special Career Review Board’s examination of documentation and formulating recommendations.

Fonds consists of coloured photographs of organization charts which identify Generals, Brigadier-Generals and Lieutenant-Generals within the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The organization charts contain small photographs of each individual.

Fonds consists of the office papers of Lt-Gen J.E. Vance used in the preparation and implementation of the 1987 White Paper. There are documents regarding a review of Canada’s defence policy, the White Paper process and implementation, the implementation of the new defence policy and the documentation of the White Paper. Includes a wide variety of documents, including memoranda, notes, correspondence, briefings, drafts, working papers, essays and minutes to meetings. There is a very detailed inventory of the contents for each of the fourteen folders at the beginning of the fonds and at the beginning of each folder.

The series consists of a set of documents charting the evolution of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF). It covers the period of approximately five years (1914-1919), thereby encompassing the First World War. The series includes such information on the role played by Canadian forces in the events of Vimy and the occupation of the head bridge of the Rhine; statistics concerning the war efforts and a list of the regiments who have not served in Europe during the war. The series also includes extracts from Sir Douglas Haig’s war diary.

Documents related to the Canadian Armed Forces focus on conscription and the role of these on the Canadian military identity.
