The fonds contains Hans Carol's lecture notes, examinations, course outlines and evaluations, bibliographies, student essays, and related material for courses taught in the Department of Geography (Africa, Urban, patterns of land use, methodologies) and Social Science (1962-1971). In addition, there are copies of several articles by Carol and others dealing with topics in geography, research notes on field trips in the Arctic, Africa and Europe (Zurich, London, Paris), manuscripts and drafts of chapters for one or more studies of African geography (1963-1970). There is correspondence relating to publications, professional activities and related material. The fonds consists of newspaper clippings, copies of speeches, reports, press releases, and related material issued by government bodies, public interest groups, politicians and others, which are utilized in the composition of the “Canadian annual review of politics and public affairs”, previously the “Canadian annual review”. The material is organized around the potential chapters in the review, and thus will have clippings on business and industry, reports from foreign affairs bodies (i.e. Canadian Institute for International Affairs), the editor's notes on political and economic matters gleaned from newspaper clippings, and coverage of elections at the federal and provincial levels. In addition, there are reports and newspaper clippings on specific government legislation of the day (National Energy Policy, the Meech Lake Accord, Québec Bill 101, etc), on specific foreign events (Vietnam War), and Canadian personalities (John Diefenbaker, Réne Lévesque, Pierre Trudeau), including copies of speeches delivered by politicians. The bulk of the material in the fonds covers the period, 1960-1977.

William Jaffé fonds

The fonds consists of material that documents Jaffe's career as an educator and author and includes personal and professional correspondence, photographs, drafts and reprints of articles, speeches and reviews written by Jaffe as well as financial records related to his personal and professional life. It also includes academic and teaching files consisting of course outlines, lecture notes, copies of class assignments, minutes, reports, and other material related to committee work, grant applications, research material and other items that document his time at Northwestern University, Harvard, the University of British Columbia and York University. The bulk of the fonds, however, consist of material that documents Jaffe's ongoing interest and research into the life and work of the French nineteenth-century economist Leon Walras including reviews, articles and essays related to Walras' work written by Jaffe as well as copies of articles and papers written by Walras himself. There are transcriptions of Walras' correspondence and other material from the fonds Walras housed in Lausanne, Switzerland and used by Jaffe in editing his 'Correspondence of Leon Walras and Related Papers'. There are also original documents from Walras and his family such as royalty statements that document Walras' earnings from his books, family photographs, correspondence and other material dating from about 1860 to 1910.

The collection consists of material related to James Milner's career in the area of community planning law and includes a copy of the article written by Mary Louise Bogart and John Edward Page on Milner as well as correspondence relating to its publication. In addition, there is material on the Town Planning Institute of Canada (TPIC), predominantly materials of a historical nature. There are also several audio reels and cassettes of interviews with planners and members of the TPIC who were Milner's colleagues. Finally, there are some microfilm copies of studies done in the area of land conservation. Some of this material was removed from the Milner fonds during the time it was held by the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University.
