Fonds consists of textual information of the Youth Training and Employment Program (YTEP) in 1986, as well as memoranda, briefing notes, tables, and reports on the YTEP. Includes reports on the purpose of the YTEP, different options available for Youth Employment Programs, and feasible options for expansion within the Department of National Defence. There is also an audit report on the YTEP and includes distribution lists dealing with recruiting directive 2/86 and National Defence Headquarters (NDHQ) instruction ADM (Per) 5/86. Also includes a memorandum dealing with seven different options designed to assist young Canadians in the transition from school to the work force, and a distribution list for NDHQ Instruction DCDS 5/86 for the Student Youth Employment Program (SYEP).

This series consists of several volumes, both Confidential and Unclassified, published between 1950 and 1960. The 10 volumes included in the series contain research reports detailing the design and creation of a steam plant installation called Yarrow-English Electric Advanced Design, or YEAD-1. Each volume consists of several chapters of written documentation, photographs, and technical diagrams pertaining to the YEAD-1 Shore Trials. The main propulsion unit and all associated systems and components are fully specified in Volume 1. Reports and the reasons for the introduction of any novel features are fully explained in volumes 2 to 8. The estimated overall performance of the installation as a whole forms the subject of volume 9. Volume 10 includes the final report and it describes the various stages of the work undertaken and completed. The series is arranged in numerical order by the volume number.

Series consists of classified documents regarding the investigation of the 1947 Yarrow – English Electric Advanced Steam Investigation into British naval machinery development for their Daring-class destroyers’ machinery. Includes a world survey of existing high steam pressure and temperature practices, technical reports and a final report with conclusions and recommendations. Also includes research reports by the 1950 Yarrow – English Electric Advanced Steam Investigation and the Yarrow & Co, Ltd. regarding naval propulsion machinery including: floor plates, gratings, ladders, handrails and stanchions; experimental rotor forgings; plastic piping and components; high speed auxiliary turbine and epicyclic gears; the main circulating water system; and condensers. The reports also covered circulating water sea trials of HMS Broadsword. The series is arranged in numerical order by the YE reference number.

Series consists documents from the Yarrow Admiralty Research Department (YARD) for a 1949 contract for the development in machinery design for Anti-Submarine frigates to meet the requirements of the Royal Navy (RN) and the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN). There are documents for other projects as well: the design of a machinery installation for a General Purpose Frigate to meet the requirements of the Royal Navy; the design of a machinery installation for a twin screw, fast escort vessel, which ultimately became the guided missile destroyer; the development of a specification and guidance drawings for a 30,000 SHP twin-screw machinery installation for anti-submarine frigates.and an investigation into the feasibility of a combined steam and gas turbine propulsion machinery installation, suitable for destroyers and large vessels. Includes reports, specifications, technical documents and other documents. Some of the major subjects covered include: frigates, propulsion and ships’ design. The series is arranged in numerical order by the YARD reference number.

Series consists of photocopies of statements and speeches when John G. Diefenbaker was Prime Minister. Includes an address to the Joint Convention of the Navy Leagues in 1960 and a statement at the NATO Council Meeting in 1957.

Series consist of photocopies of documents collected when Diefenbaker was the Prime Minister of Canada. It includes memoranda to the Prime Minister, correspondence with leaders of others states, messages prepared for the House of Commons, speeches, statements, reports of various meetings, handwritten notes, newspaper clippings, letters and telegrams. This series reflects Canadian and international defence and political issues during Diefenbaker’s mandate. Some of the main subjects covered include: Emergency Measures; Defence Production Sharing program; North Atlantic Treaty Organization; Berlin and Cuba crisis; Law of the Sea; and Nuclear Weapons (Acquisition and Disarmament).

Fonds consists of material documenting some of the activities of the Wrens during the Second World War, as well as during the 1950s and 1960s. Includes newsletters, newspaper clippings, reunion programmes, photographs, memorabilia and various other documents. Also includes newsletters of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) HMCS Peregrine and HMCS Conestoga, as well as a biographical sketch of Vera Laughton Mathews (Director of the Women's Royal Naval Service (WRNS), 1939-1946).

Subseries consists of files for each of the countries visited during a world tour the students took in the spring of 1977. The tour took students to the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Belgium, Israel, Cyprus, Yugoslavia, Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Ghana, Zaire, Iran, Indonesia, Hong Kong, Korea, and Japan. Files exist for each destination and there are also a notes file for the European leg and one for the tour as a whole. Files are arranged in order of the itinerary with the general notes being located at the end of the subseries along with a file for maps of the tour.

Series consists of Dr. George Lindsey’s working files covering such subjects as air defence, maritime warfare, Canadian defence in the 1970s, defence policy, etc.

Subseries consists of work orders submitted to LAC and the Public Archives of Nova Scotia for reproduction of photographs for use in Volume 2 of the Official History of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) during the Second World War. Arranged numerically by work order number.

Fonds consists of photographs depicting the women’s service dress uniform introduced in 1979. Along with the modified jacket and skirt, other items illustrated include the winter hat, the gabardine raincoat, the overcoat, the V-neck sweater and the leather purse. Accompanying the photographs is a letter signed by N.A. Buckingham, Director of Ceremonial for the Chief of the Defence Staff, which discusses the method by which the new uniform was to be introduced. Within this letter, a brief description of each item is provided.

Subseries consists of 39 files regarding the RCAF Winter Experimental Establishment during 1947 to 1951. Includes reports on a wide variety of subjects and organization orders. The major subjects covered include: organization; various aircraft such as Lancaster, Halifax, Dakota (Douglas DC-3), Vampire, Northstar (Canadair DC-4M), Sea Fury, etc.; maintenance and repair; equipment and supplies; tests and measurement; radar equipment; reports and reporting; cold weather conditions; cold weather tests; winter operations; emergency management; and arctic regions. The subseries is arranged in numerical order by the Kardex reference number.

Subseries consists of documents regarding the Wilton Fijenoord b.v.’s submission. Includes submissions covering the executive summary, project management approach, European submarine designs, corporate profile, cost data, industrial benefits and Arctic operations capability. The submissions were from the following Canadian companies: Halifax-Dartmouth Industries Limited; and Saint John Shipbuilding Limited. The submission by Halifax-Dartmouth Industries Limited included technical drawings. The submission by Saint John Shipbuilding Limited included photographs.

Fonds consists of material documenting William Stanley Lockhart's service with the Royal Flying Corps and with the Royal Air Force during the First World War (1917-1919). Includes his school notes, flying logbook, and military educational manuals. Also includes are aircraft logbooks and engine manual, and correspondence related to Lockhart's Electric Synchronized Gear invention. There are also photographs of Lockhart in uniform, his crashed Sopwith Camel, and a Camel taking off from the HMAS Sydney.

Fonds consists of the photocopies of the Library of Congress' 30-page finding aid to the William Sowden Sims' papers, and correspondence dating from Sims' time as Commander U.S. Naval Forces in Europe during the First World War. The major topics include anti-submarine warfare, Atlantic escort problems, the United States destroyer construction programme, and British-American relations in military, especially naval, matters. Includes personal, general, and special correspondences.

Subseries consists of an outline, scripts and drafts of Robert Caldwell’s paper “Rear-Admiral M. Landymore: The Silent Service Speaks Out” during 2002-2003. Also includes a transcript of an interview of Landymore by Caldwell and a paper “Admirals Brock and Landymore in the Canadian Age of Change 1963-1967” by Caldwell. The subseries is arranged in chronological order.

Subseries consists of material regarding William M Lee during the 1960s when he was Special Assistant to the Hon. Paul Hellyer, the Minister of National Defence. Some of the subjects covered include: the integration and unification of the Canadian Forces; Canada’s defence policy; the Hon. John Turner and the 1984 election campaign; and the North American Air Defence Command (NORAD). Also includes five files containing newspaper clippings and articles, and some personal correspondence. There are also some photographs of Lee and some articles and speeches by him. The subseries is arranged in alphabetical order by file title. The one exception is a list of Lee’s files which is placed at the beginning of the subseries.

Collection consists of copies of various military magazines from the Second World War, including "Yank the Army Weekly", "Alert", and "The Flying Times". Also includes post cards, photographs, and other documents.
