Jane Bigelow fonds

Fonds consists primarily of records documenting Jane Bigelow's political career from 1969 - 1980, with the majority of the material dealing with her terms as mayor and controller as well as her various election campaigns. Included are municipal project files; records relating to the activities of the London and Middlesex NDP Ridings Association and the NDP of Ontario; campaign materials; correspondence; speeches; and newspaper clippings. Also included in the fonds are photographs documenting Bigelow's career; awards and other recognitions that she received; biographical records documenting her elections, public service and the contributions that she made to London; and a fictional novel about a female mayor in the city of London.

Fonds consists of records created and acquired by the London and Area Council of Women. Fonds includes operational records such as minutes of meetings, financial records as well as materials that were distributed to members and federated organizations such as newsletters, annual reports and annual directories. Also included are records relating to the political activities of the council such as resolutions, briefs and submissions as well as project files and committee records. Some records document the history of the organization and its milestones and include newspaper clippings, scrapbooks, photographs and archives records. The fonds also includes records that were received by the LACW from its federated organizations, the Provincial Council of Women of Ontario, the National Council of Women of Canada and the International Council of Women.

Fonds consists of records created and acquired by Western's Caucus on Women's Issues. Included are newsletters, minutes, financial records, various versions of their constitution, correspondence, documentary field tapes and reference materials as well as records relating to the Caucus' efforts to establish women's studies as a discipline, promote employment equity and contribute a women's perspective to the policy and planning processes at the university.
Also included in the fonds are the research materials of Constance Backhouse, law professor and member of the Caucus, who researched the history of women at Western as part of several projects including her report, “Women faculty at UWO: reflections on the employment equity award”, the establishment of UWO law archives and 100 years of women at Western.

This material is related to the history of the third Mother House of the Sisters of St. Joseph in London, which was called Mount St. Joseph. There is information about the construction of the building and detailed information about its special features and decoration, including the Immaculate Conception Chapel, and its grounds, particularly the Grotto. The records also relate to planning the construction of, and move to, the Sisters’ residence in 2007, and the sale of the Mount St. Joseph building and property. There are records which reflect communal life in the convent, including the various organized groups, events, and dramatic and musical entertainment, and menus and meal planning. The series contains records related to men religious who served at the Mother House, and other Diocesan correspondence. Information about both Fatima Hall and Ignatia Hall can be found, including the various uses of space in these buildings.

Earliest records include a report card from 1868, a letter dated 1869, and an original deed of land dated 1883. Records from the late 1920s to 1960s include original newsclippings. Many of the records are undated photographs, photocopies, or typed histories and biographies. The latest record dated 2005 is email correspondence.

This series consists of contracts, deeds, plans, and newspaper clippings relating to Hellmuth College from 1866-1952. There is a general history and photographs of Hellmuth College. The series includes photographs of the Chapel and Motherhouse. The series contains a description of the layout of the Orphanage as well as information regarding the day-to-day routines. The series also contains notes on the process of purchasing the Mills property and written summaries of ecclesiastical events such as the Eucharistic Congress at Mount St. Joseph in July, 1923 and the visit of Cardinal Villeneuve in 1934. There are also special issues of the Western Gazette and magazine and newspaper articles, including a biography of Bishop Hellmuth, and the building of the new Motherhouse.

The sous-fonds also contains memorabilia saved by Sister Jean Moylan, a former student and teacher at the Academy, and Lee Anne Doyle, a former student at the Academy.
