Paul Baldwin fonds

Fonds contains research files compiled by local historian Paul Baldwin relating to architecture and architects in St. Thomas and Elgin County, principally related to the work of John T. Findlay and Neil R. Darrach with an emphasis on Darrach. Also includes information on David Kilpatrick, Elgin County's first architect, as well as research notes that informed Baldwin's "Legacy" column published in "Community News". Finally, fonds contains original architectural plans created in circa 1903 by Neil Darrach for the St. Thomas Public Library building, as well as a photocopy of a plan for the residence of R.A. Cook.

Alward's father was Harry O. Alward, former Reeve of Port Burwell. Fonds consists principally of black and white portrait photographs of First World War soldiers, collected and maintained by Rodney Branch 525, Royal Canadian Legion. Most but not all portrait subjects had a personal or familial connection to the Village of Rodney, the Township of Aldborough and/or the West Elgin region. Fonds also includes two black and white photographs showing members of the 91st Overseas Battalion, C.E.F., assembling and marching in Rodney, Ontario, February 25, 1916. Fonds also includes a typescript note, 1989, on Branch letterhead, concerning the photographs previously framed and displayed at the Clachan Hall.
