Series consists of three (3) architectural sketches of the Port Hope & District Hospital built in 1984. It includes: Preliminary sketch - front of the proposed building done in 1981; Patio area / entrance, 1984; Ground Floor plan, first floor plan, elevation section.

File consists of copies of addresses given by H. S. Milne, Chairman of the Port Hope & District Hospital, 1971-1973.

File consists of nursing, management and records department manual updates. Most of the policies originally written in 1984 and were under review in 1991. Jessie Mutter's name is on some of the records.

Series consists of newsclippings regarding the hospital in Port Hope, 1995-1996. Some of the articles include: "Port Hope: Latest in Hospital Technology" October 12, 1995, Peterborough Examiner;" "Teleradiology purchase a First for Ontario" 1996; "Cobourg gets hospital Headquarters" October 1, 1996, Guide; "Foundation announces impressive fundraising numbers for hospital" 1996; "Temporary name could become permanent" 1996; "Hospital Celebrates at Capitol" 1996; "Hospital gets hi-tech x-ray link."

File consists of a diploma received by M. Isabel Jones St. Louis (1897-1987) on 15th October 1919. Diploma is signed by the president, secretary, superintendent and mission of the Port Hope Hospital Training School for nurses, established in 1916. The diploma was presented to the Port Hope and District Hospital as Ms. St. Louis was the last surviving of that graduating class. It hung in the Port Hope & District Hospital until it closed.

File consists of two (2) prints which originally hung in the Port Hope & District Hospital. Lord Willingdon served as Governor-General to Canada 1926-1931; One of Lady Willingdon and one of Lord Willingdon, both autographed.

Item is a presentation certificate from the Port Hope Moose Lodge to the Port Hope Hospital. The presentation was made at the Capitol Theatre, March 30, 1938. The cardboard of the back of the frame had the following written on it "Presented January 1938 Oxygen tent presented to the Hospital by Moose L on March 30th at the Capitol Theatre."

Fonds consists of four (4) blueprints/floor plans of the Port Hope Hospital that was located on Ward Street, c1915. The blueprints were created for the construction of the "old" hospital by Ellis & Ellis Architects, Toronto. They include: First Floor, Second Floor, East Elevation, and South Elevation.

The fonds consists of Dr. Vanarsdale Blakslee's personal and medical business receipts between the years of 1915 and 1940. There are receipts for medical supplies, tax receipts, and personal receipts such as household bills and car repairs. Many of the medical supply invoices are for products shipped by mail from Toronto or Montreal. Some of these companies in Toronto include: J.F Hartz Co. Limited, Ingram & Bell, Ethical Drug Products Limited, and from Montreal Frank W. Horner Limited, Manufacturing Chemists. The majority of the receipts are from local businesses in Belleville and surrounding areas such as: F.W Jeffery Harware Merchant, Midland, Ontario, F.S Anderson Co. Genuine Scranton Coal, W.H Lattimer Druggist Belleville, Sprague the Cleaner, Greenleaf's Garage Machine Shop Foundry Electrical Contractors, R. Oliphant & Son Butchers, McLaughlin Motor Car Company, Quinte Bicycle Store, The Belleville Pharmacy, E.D Finkle Electrical Contractor, J.S McKeown The Prescription Druggist, Porter, Butler and Payne Barristers, Solicitors Notaries Public etc. The Belleville Vulcanizing Co. J.T Warren Chevrolet Garage, Ed. F. Dickens & Son Bakers and Confectioners, Smith Hardware, Chas J. Symons Gents Furnishings, Hats & Caps, A.B Liddle Tailoring, Cleaning, Pressing, Repairing and many more. There are also household bills from the Belleville Gas Department, Belleville Water Works Department, Bell Telephone, Hydro Electric Power Commission and tax receipts from various years.

Series consists of biographical files on key players in the history of cancer care in Ontario compiled by Dr. Cowan. Individual files can consist of Dr. Cowan’s notes, interview transcripts, slides from talks given, copies of papers written either by or about the individual in question, related booklets and in some cases photographs. These files were compiled by Dr. Cowan while preparing a history of Cancer Care Ontario and talks and articles on Dr. Harold O. Warwick. File 2.1 contains Dr. Cowan’s research material in support of his argument that Dr. Warwick was Canada’s first medical oncologist.

Files were organized by Dr. Cowan in manila envelopes. Details transcribed on each envelope have been included as part of the file titles. When notes on the envelopes were extensive, the envelope itself has been included as part of the file contents.

Series consists of correspondence and position papers regarding Princess Margaret Hospital’s relocation and the merger between Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital. The material related to the Princess Margaret Hospital relocation was compiled while Dr. Cowan was Chair of the Oncology Coordinating Council at the University of Toronto. The material related to the TGH-TWH merger is from Dr. Cowan’s time as Head of the Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center. Opinions on the proposed merger had been requested of the Chairs of Clinical Departments in the Faculty of Medicine by the Dean of Medicine, University of Toronto in 1985. Each head of a hospital’s Department of Medicine were sent copies.

Dr. Cowan organized these files with both names and numbers. File titles retain Dr. Cowan’s original titles and his file numbers are included at the end of the file titles in brackets. Arrangement is according to Dr. Cowan’s original numbering. There were two different files numbered 23. Files 1-21 and 37 were not donated to the Archives.

Series contains scrapbooks of newspaper clippings about Princess Margaret Hospital.

Series consists of photographs accumulated by the Public Affairs and Communications department from their predecessor departments. Files 3.6.1 to 3.6.5 are large composite class photographs of students in the Armed Service Radiologists School at the Toronto General Hospital. Files 3.6.6 to 3.6.7 are photographs that were originally mounted and framed for display and had exhibit captions affixed to the back of one of the frames. The caption for file 3.6.6 read:

The first of a series of photographs taken in the early 1940s. Most likely taken as a marketing tool for the Private Patient’s Pavilion (now called the Main Pavilion). View taken from the south, the Fell Pavilion now sits on the driveway.

“One of the world’s most powerful electron microscopes has been installed in Canada’s leading cancer research centre as the centennial gift of The Canada Life Assurance Company. Here Dr. T.C. Brown, chief pathologist of Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto, examines the 3,200-pound instrument with A. H. Lemmon, president of Canada Life and president of the Canadian Life Insurance Association. The EM 300 will be used in the fight against cancer, arthritis, muscle degeneration, and diseases of the kidney, liver and skin. It is capable of magnifying an image 500,000 times.” 1967 photograph label.

Fonds consists of financial and organizational records of the Abbeyfield Housing Society of Shanty Bay, who were responsible for the construction and early operation of O'Brien House, a retirement home.

The fonds consists of yearbooks, booklets, and badges, as well as teaching and programme information related to the Woodstock General Hospital School of Nursing. It also includes Constitutions, By-laws and Policies, as well as News Bulletins related to the Nursing School’s Alumni Association. In addition to, the fonds includes several published books, brochures and pamphlets related to the fields of nursing, health, and medicine.

The fonds consists of seven yearbooks (1965-1969, 1972-1973) and a history book related to the Woodstock General Hospital School of Nursing.

This sub-series consists of consolidated and monthly financial statements prepared for the Toronto Western Hospital Department of Finance by Eddis & Associates, Chartered Accountants. These statements and reports were distributed to members of the Board of Directors.
