The collection consists of material related to James Milner's career in the area of community planning law and includes a copy of the article written by Mary Louise Bogart and John Edward Page on Milner as well as correspondence relating to its publication. In addition, there is material on the Town Planning Institute of Canada (TPIC), predominantly materials of a historical nature. There are also several audio reels and cassettes of interviews with planners and members of the TPIC who were Milner's colleagues. Finally, there are some microfilm copies of studies done in the area of land conservation. Some of this material was removed from the Milner fonds during the time it was held by the Faculty of Environmental Studies, York University.

The fonds consists of Frederick F. Schindeler's records as a graduate student, an educator and during his term as Alderman in North York. The material includes minutes, agendas, correspondence, briefs, background material and related items from Borough Council and its committees (Art gallery, Negotiating, Traffic, Works, Conflicts of Interest, Development, Environmental Control, Adjustment), and from the Board of Control and the Library Board. There is material from several of the municipal departments (Building, Clerk's Office, Parks & Recreation, Personnel, Public Health, Public Works, Police), and material from government agencies, federal and provincial, active in the Borough (Department of Consumer and Corporate Affairs-federal, Consumer Affairs and Workmen's Compensation Board-provincial). There is material dealing with housing, including by-laws and zoning regulations for North York and provincial legislation dealing with housing; material dealing with transportation policy and planning, including rapid transit, the proposed Spadina Expressway, transportation studies, and related subjects. There is correspondence with constituents and civil servants dealing with local problems, and correspondence from ratepayers and other local organizations. For his book, 'Responsible government in Ontario,' there are files relating to the methodology employed in the book, illustrations, notes, source materials and bibliography, and general publication files. Also included are personal graduate papers, research notes, correspondence, professorial notes and memorandums. The material in Accession 1972-006 dealing with the North York Council is arranged alphabetically by subject heading (associations, committees, government agencies, transportation). The constituents' correspondence is arranged alphabetically by name while that from associations and organizations is organized separately and then arranged alphabetically.

The fonds consists of notes, photocopies of research materials, course outlines and bibliographies for George Tatham's geography courses offered at York University and the University of Toronto in the fields of political, social and physical geography, as well as notes taken during his student years. In addition, there are glass slides used for teaching purposes. The fonds also includes three audio cassette tapes and typed transcripts of interviews conducted by John Hardy of the York University Archives with Tatham concerning the early years of York University. The interviews were conducted in 1975-1976.

R. H. Tawney fonds

The fonds consists of correspondence, notes, a scrapbook, publications and galley proofs of publications, both by Richard Henry Tawney and by the Workers' Educational Association. For Tawney there are notes on a book about the economic thinker Henry George (which was apparently never written), chapters in typescript and handwritten for 'Equality,' and page proofs for 'Twentieth Century socialism,' as well as articles and reviews (in typescript and handwritten and published) for 'The highwayman,' (publication of the Workers' Educational Association), correspondence with colleagues in adult education and history, and a scrapbook of newspaper clippings with some handwritten correspondence, relating to the Tawney family in England and India. For the Workers' Educational Association there are galleys of articles, and related correspondence for 'The highwayman'. There is also material of a general nature, including reports, correspondence and conference proceedings, and articles related to the education of trade unionists.
