Fonds consists of documents used and generated by Charles Robert Nixon during the years he served as Deputy Minister of National Defence (1975-1982). Includes mainly file copies of official outgoing correspondence and memoranda to Cabinet. Also includes drafts of speeches and miscellaneous documents covering a wide variety of subjects. Fonds consists of the working files of Vice-Admiral Herbert S. Rayner generated and maintained during his term as Chief of the Naval Staff (1960-1964). Includes subject files, reports, studies and public relations material. Also includes a small portion of Rayner's correspondence with Sir Caspar John, George Whalen Anderson and Frank Birch Caldwell, Naval Member, Canadian Joint Staff London. There are also transcripts of statements made by the Minister of National Defence, Paul Hellyer and the Associate Minister of Defence, Louis-Joseph-Lucien Cardin. There are 5 series.

Fonds consists of four folders and one report regarding reserve training in the mid-1990's. Folders 1 and 2 are concerned with the concepts of the Area Readiness Training Company (ARTC) at Meaford. Folder 3 highlights the concepts for militia combat evaluation methodology. Folder 4 contains unit evaluations and the report provides the Annual Training Directive for 1997-1998. The folders are arranged in chronological order.

Fonds consists of a 1965 published report entitled "Report of the Minister's Manpower Study (Officers) Volume 1." The purpose of the report was to outline a career management plan for officers in order to meet the long-term needs of the Regular Forces in the most effective and economical manner. Includes progress reports and charts dealing with the officer classification structure being developed as a management tool. The report itself is divided into five parts: Basic Considerations for a Career Management Plan; The Officer Requirement; The Management of Officer Careers; The Transition Plan; and Financial Implications.

Fonds consists of one document entitled "Standing Orders / Ordres Permanent" for CFB Lahr, Germany. Consists of orders that were published under the authority of Queen's Regulations and Orders for the Canadian Forces, article 4.21(1) for the observance of military and civilian personnel accomodating, visiting or using the facilities. The standing orders include chapters on the following topics: general topics; personnel administration and services; security standing orders; fire orders; operations and training; Canadian Forces Europe and hospitals; logistics; safety; bird/pest control measures organization; non-public auditing and stocktaking; and exchange system.

Fonds consists of official documents relating to the wartime service of Lieutenant Hyslop with the Royal Canadian Naval Volunteer Reserve (RCNVR) during the Second World War. They include several "Commissions and Warrants"; the orders which appointed officers to take up a new position. Includes two hand-drawn diagrams showing the escort force dispositions for the original designation for UK-North Russia convoys (PQ) and one for Malta operations. There is also a collection of "flimsies" in which commanding officers wrote periodic fitness reports on their officers assessing their performance and suitability for greater responsibilities and promotion. Fonds also includes biographical information on Hyslop and information on HMS badsworth.

Collection consists of various oversized posters and lithographs related to the Canadian military. It includes an oversized poster from The Military Colleges (duplicate) and 9 oversized lithographs of Canadian soldiers in action in the forest, in the jungle, in Germany, on parachute jumping and climbing Mt Logan (includes 4 duplicates). There are also 3 smaller lithographs representing the Canadian Forces badge, the Air Operations Branch (1972) and the Air Command badge (1975), as well as a picture advertisement for recruiting.

Wayne W. Walker fonds

Fonds consists of an unpublished work researched and written by Wayne W. Walker in 2006 and entitled ""The Annapolis Regiments" of Nova Scotia: The Officers, NCOs and Men of the 69th and 72nd Battalions of Infantry Volunteer Militia 1867-1914." The document chronicles and honours "The Annapolis Regiments", 69th and 72nd Battalions of Infantry, and the Annapolis county men who volunteered to serve their country as part-time soldiers. The record starts with the battalions' formation in 1867 and follows them through to their calling out to active service as part of the 6th division, Canadian Expeditionary Force for overseas service in October 1914. A few early records concerning the Digby County Artillery Militia Unit and the Digby County Infantry Battalion (which was never raised) are also included.

Fond consists of a Royal Air Force (RAF) booklet entitled "Analysis of 360 Fighter Victories gained by 90 Western Desert Pilots with Training and Combat hints suggested by them". The pilots were under Middle East Command and the victories took place from June to December 1942. The booklet draws on the analysis of 360 fighter victories gained by 90 Western Desert pilots to make technical and tactical suggestions for an improvement in unsatisfactory fighter results. A number of appendices provide charts detailing numbers of kills made, statistics concerning aircraft weaponry, and diagrams of enemy planes. The booklet concludes with a summary of the main flaws in strategy and suggested remedies.

Fonds consists of the drafts and final copy of an article written on the first trans-Canada flight. The article, entitled "The First Transcontinental Flight - 1920" was written by W.C. R.V. Manning and was published in the Canadian Geographical Journal, 69, no. 3, pg. 78-87 in September 1964. Also included is correspondence regarding the content of the article and copies of telegrams sent at the time of the flight. Photos included depict the pilots, planes, scenery, and crowds who came to various cities to see the plane.

Hugh F. Pullen fonds

Fonds consists of the journals and log books of Vice Admiral W.J.S. Pullen and Captain Thomas C. Pullen. They include Thomas C. Pullen’s journal from his expedition to the Arctic in 1852-1854 which focus on his and his crew’s experiences and findings in the Arctic and also their communication with other ships such as the American ship SS McClellan. The fonds also covers then-lieutenant W.J.S. Pullen’s expedition to find Sir John Franklin in 1849-1851, the first search for Franklin attempted.

This edition of Book II contains those items of equipment which appear in the estimates for 1966-1967 and any items which had been approved for inclusion in the IDP, up to 4 November 1965. Projects which were previously on “Pending” items lists, and which were not approved as of 4 November, do not appear in this edition. Background information on the IDP additional capital for equipment estimates for 1966-1967 is also included in brief at the beginning of the report.
