Fonds consists of Part V of “Reminiscences” written by Dudley Gawen King in 1993, detailing naval operations and his life with the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN) during the Second World War’s military campaign Battle of the Atlantic. This book is divided into five sections spanning from 1939 to 1945:
1) 1939 – April 1941 covers his active services in Esquimalt, Prince Rupert, and Halifax.
2) April 1941 – September 1942 consists of his command of HMCS Arvida, and HMCML Q-054. He also details the loss of HMCS Ottawa.
3) September 1942 – May 1943 recounts Arvida’s refit in Lunenburg Nova Scotia, the escorts of Convoy’s SC-101, ON-137, SS Bury, SC-107, and HX-233.
4) May 1943 – March 1944 covers Escort Group C-5 (Fifth Canadian Escort Group), Arvida’s refit in Maryland, and the German Naval Acoustic Torpedo (GNAT).
5) March 1944 – November 1945 covers HMCS Stettler, the Support Group EG-16, the loss of HMCS Magog and the Gribaltar convoys.
There is an additional sixth section where King examines the RCN and The Battle of the Atlantic in retrospect, and three appendices.
UntitledFonds consist of a First World War typescript diary and two photograph albums by Lieutenant Cyprian Herbert Andrews that documents his service with the Royal Flying Corps (RFC). Andrews’ diary spans from the 30 September, 1917 – 6 February, 1918. He records his experiences in the diary with the RFC through the various squadrons: 83 Squadron, 90 C.T.S, 91 C.T.S, and 87 C.T.S. He also documents his cadet training at the School of Military Aeronautics and his flight experiences across different locations. The photographs albums accompany his diary on life in the RFC, and includes pictures of the various camps, classes, locations, planes and fellow RFC members Andrews encounters.

Volumes 1-2 include operational reports (opreps) consisting of daily reports from 441 Squadron to various headquarters, including the Royal Air Force (RAF), Allied Expeditionary Air Force, and 144 Airfield. Also includes volumes regarding flight logs, honours and awards, flying accidents, casualties, the Squadron unit badge and monthly training and flying returns. Volume 4 includes the returns of the pilots’ flying times and is classified.

The reports contain information and/or recommendations on the performance, design and operation of various equipment. Includes information on the multiple fighter, transport, and search and rescue aircrafts, photography developments, weaponry testing, navigational devices, transceivers, and other miscellaneous aeronautical related items that were conducted at CEPE. The major aircrafts covered include the T-33 MK3 Aircraft, Canadair Sabre’s, Avro Canada CF-100 Canuck, Harvard 4 and several others. Additionally, transport and search and rescue planes (non-fighter) were tested, which include the De Havilland Otter aircraft, North Star Aircraft, Dakota Aircraft and many more. Other subjects covered were weaponry testing; the M6 Rifle-Shotgun, and .22 rocket, navigational devices; compasses and search and rescue equipment, transceivers; sloping vee antenna and radio tech. Subseries consists of reports containing information and/or recommendations on the performance, design and operation of equipment. The reports detail the developments of armaments for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) for use on aircrafts and other weaponry at the Air Armament Evaluation Detachment from 1954 to 1963. The reports mainly discuss the various military weapons and equipment for the RCAF’s aircrafts. The major subjects included are the testing of radars; Radar Armament System Exerciser (RASE), the Del Mar Target Tow System and many miscellaneous aircraft parts like voltage testers and depth charges. RCAF aircrafts are briefly mentioned in the context of the weapons that are armed onto them, or that are being tested out. Subseries consists of a variety of projects conducted by the AETE between 1976 and 1994. The reports all include mathematical and scientific data/calculations for the miscellaneous experiments conducted. Most of the projects were testing’s of aircraft parts such as a nose broom, parachutes, and camera stabilizer. Others were based on gathering mathematical and physical methods to test theories. The reports begin with a brief summary/background to the project followed by the objectives, method, procedure, conclusions and recommendations. There are pictures, graphs, mathematical equations, scientific data and data logs alongside the descriptions of the experiments. The subseries is arranged in numerical order by the Internal Project Directive (IPD) number.
Subseries consists of evaluations, investigations and reports of various aircraft parts, testers and photographs from 1968-2000 at the AETE. Most reports are based on evaluating products for their efficiency and potential use for aircrafts. These tests include examining accelerometers, stress gauges, ejection controls, static charges and performance testing. The aircrafts on which these experiments were conducted on include the CF-188, CH-124A, and CF-5. The reports are also comprised of photographs of the experiments alongside mathematical and scientific data, and graphs. The subseries is arranged in numerical order by the Project Directive (PD) number.
Fonds consists of a booklet entitled “GM of Canada War Album”. The booklet consists of a picture album intended to highlight the contributions of General Motors of Canada and its employees towards the war effort from 1939 to 1945. The black and white photographs depict the various vehicles and military equipment produced, as well as some examples of war posters and propaganda.
