Fonds primarily consists of material accumulated during Mary Grey’s career at the National Museum of Science and Technology (renamed in 1999 the Canada Science and Technology Museum). The fonds is arranged into three series: GRE-1) Astronomy Lantern Slides; GRE-2) Curatorial career files; and 3) Second World War memorabilia. GRE-1) consists of 524 lantern slides illustrating 23 different subjects. The slides were collected by Mary Grey over her career. Series GRE-2) Curatorial Career consists of slide shows, photographs and research material. The series primarily consists of her work on Haley’s comet. GRE-3) Second World War memorabilia consists of correspondence and ephemera related to several women during the war.

The records are primarily concerned with O’Leary High School, St. Nicholas High School, and the history of the Sisters’ involvement with education in Edmonton, Alberta. The material includes O’Leary High School yearbooks, photographs of O’Leary High School, news clippings, pamphlets, histories, and correspondence. The correspondence is about the establishment of the Edmonton Catholic School District Archives and the history of the Sisters who worked in education in Edmonton, Alberta.

This series contains records concerning the involvement of the Sisters of St. Joseph from the London diocese with education in Maidstone, Ontario. This series consists of a 1971 yearbook from St. Mary’s Elementary School where the Sisters worked as teachers.

This series contains very limited records about the opening of a mission house in Tweed, Ontario by the Sisters of St. Joseph from the Pembroke diocese. There is a short note about the plan for Sisters Emma Castonguay, Clare Sullivan, and Mary Keizer to share a house on Irving Street in Tweed, beginning in June 1986, and to formally open the house on July 16, 1986. There is correspondence from Sister Margaret Glofcheskie, the General Superior, appointing Sister Clare as the local superior for the house. There is also a short note indicating that Sister Clare taught for two years at St. Cartagh’s in Tweed beginning in 1984. The school was part of the Hastings County Roman Catholic Separate School Board.

Sous-fonds consists of artwork created by Sister Marie Celine Janisse, including pencil sketches and originals and prints of watercolour paintings. There is also personal correspondence, poetry, journal entries, and reflections, written both during and after her missions in Peru and Nicaragua. There are photographs, the majority in albums, of Sister Marie Celine’s artwork and of the Sisters with whom she worked. There is also a journal kept by Sister Marie Celine during a trip to the Holy Land.

This series consists of records collected about Mother Mechtilde McCarthy and created by her. The material consists of chronologies; a Form of the Act signed at reception and a Form of the Act signed at final vows dated 1878; a detailed report of a canonical visit by the Bishop of London, Michael Frances Fallon in 1917; correspondence with Bishop Michael Frances Fallon, Dr. Bruce Smith, Mother M. Clare, and George M. Reid; copies of correspondence with Archbishop J. H. MacDonald concerning the governance and separation of the Edmonton community from its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of London; and a history of the Edmonton community from 1922 to 1953 entitled “Our Western Saga”. The canonical status, governance, and fiscal responsibility of the Edmonton community had been an ongoing issue since its establishment in 1922.
