Responding to a lack of professional development opportunities for teachers in the Caribbean islands of Anguilla and Montserrat, the early projects provided teacher training workshops while later projects aimed to establish on-site teacher training processes in cooperation with the University of the West Indies. Jones played various roles in the projects, acting as an instructor, international liaison officer, and project director.

The fonds contains correspondence, pamphlets, booklets, newsletters, promotional material, scrapbooks, photo albums, yearbooks, a diploma, a nursing kit, a crest, two large, matted photographs of graduation classes, and news clippings related to the school, the hospital, the students, and the alumnae. It also includes a variety of photographs of student nurses, student life, the school, the hospital, hospital staff, and alumnae events, and memorabilia from alumni and graduation events.

The Alumnae Association was dedicated to connecting the students and preserving the history of the school. The Alumnae Association’s newsletters, event preparations, treasurer’s book, annual report, constitutions, and bylaws are present.

These annals chronicle the daily lives of Sisters Ann Marshall, Katrina Rooney, and Nancy Sullivan while they performed charitable works in Annotto Bay, Jamaica. These records discuss their efforts in healthcare and education, including their donation to fix critical water problems in the Infirmary as well as setting up several educational programs to help children to learn and read. The annals also provide nuanced detail by describing the Sisters’ living quarters, thoughts about their works, and about the town itself. The sub-series also includes Katrina Rooney’s photographs. These images show Katrina Rooney teaching in school, posing with community members, and relaxing in her leisure time. These images offer a “snapshot” of life in Annotto Bay. A larger photo album along with a two folders of photographs also makes up this sub-series. The album’s images provide further examples of Annotto Bay life, and include photos of a trip to Jamaica made by Sisters Claudia and Francis Rossignoli. This sub-series also has records that detail the 2001 murder of Father Martin Royackers, who also lived and worked in Annotto Bay. He was a member of the Upper Canada Province of the Canadian Jesuits and had served Annotto Bay for six years. This news shocked and saddened the Congregation. They were upset to hear the news of the violent attack in a place they considered as a home. The Sisters set up a memorial liturgy in response to the news. The sub-series also includes several drawings from children to the Sisters.

This sous-contains fundraising documents pertaining to rural collections and the Orphans’ Festival which show that the Sisters needed support from the surrounding community in order to operate the orphanage. Articles, tickets, programmes, and receipts from the annual Orphans’ Festival show the importance the event held, not only to the Sisters but also to Hamilton citizens. Financial records further illustrate how much money was needed to care for the orphaned children. The account books detail the necessary items Sisters purchased to successfully run the orphanage. The fee books show how much parents paid to foster their children. These records also demonstrate the needs the Sisters had on outside resources, like government grants and surrounding community funding. Documents pertaining to regulatory compliance are also found, including the 1965 Children’s Institutions Act and Regulations which outlines the rules the orphanage had to follow in order to operate within the law. Correspondence on a variety of topics is also present in the collection, including finance, education, and daily operations. There are photographs which offer a “snapshot” into the life of the orphanage. These images depict Sisters working in the orphanage, the Orphans’ Festival, children’s communion celebrations, and the dining hall. The sous-fonds also contains records created by the Advisory Committee of Mount St. Joseph Orphanage. These records outline the types of work the committee did, including structural changes to the building. There are several summaries of the history of St. Mary’s Orphanage, and a brief summary of the history of Mount St. Carmel Infants’ Home. The registers offer significant information about the children who remained in the care of the orphanage. These list information such as the orphan’s name, date of birth, religious denomination, nationality, date of admission and discharge, date of death [if applicable], and who took the child after he or she was discharged. There are also registers that list information about children who stayed for day stays, as well as children who were moved into foster homes. The sous-fonds contains information about orphans who received their religious sacraments, as well as baptismal records. Also found personal folders and admission cards, which provide information about application and departure, correspondence and parental addresses and occupations.

The Lieutenant Colonel W. Lochead Fonds contain the personal papers of William Merton Overton Lochead, as well as, files on the 118th Battalion. These papers were acquired in the mid-1990s by the Laurier Centre for Military Strategic and Disarmament Studies’ LMH Archive, and cover the 118th Battalion’s existence from 1915 to 1917. The No Price Too High Collection is a body of documents and items brought together during the production of the television mini-series of the same name. This series was produced in response to the 1992 CBC mini-series The Valour and the Horror. Many veterans and members of the historical community felt that the CBC’s series presented an unfair depiction of Canada’s contribution to the Second World War, with its dubious treatment of documentary evidence, and lack of understanding as to what some veterans may have actually experienced. The response was a mini-series produced using primary documents of various sorts, donated to the production crew by veterans or family members of veterans in the hopes of their story being used to present a more positive depiction of Canada in the Second World War.

Other materials besides textual records include audio cassettes, video cassettes, original and copied photographs, newspaper clippings, photocopied newspaper clippings, and physical objects such as a soldiers ‘dog tags’ (personal identification tag).
