Files contain examination reports, patient histories, treatment records, prescriptions, and forms specific to the treatment and reporting of venereal disease.

Toronto General Hospital. Pharmacy and Therapeutics CommitteeSeries consists of surveyors’ plans, site plans and maps of various TGH properties in the City of Toronto, and architectural drawings of TGH buildings at both its Gerrard St. and College St. sites.
File 33.0.30 contains copies of plans and drawings ([185?]-1910) from the collection of the Metropolitan Toronto Reference Library. File includes photographs (28.5 X 35.5 cm), photostatic positives (28 X 43 cm) and photostatic negatives (28 X 39 cm) of architectural drawings of TGH Gerrard St. site by William Hay, Architect [185?] and by Gundry and Langley, Architects (1864-1866); and photographs (28 X 35.5 cm) of architectural drawings of “Central Block”, TGH College St. site, by Darling & Pearson, Architects (January 1910).
Sub-series consists of reports by the Supervising Committee (file 5.4.1) and Director (file 5.4.2) of the Ontario Institute of Radiotherapy to the Ontario Ministry of Health outlining proposals and plans for expanding the operations of the Institute.
Toronto General Hospital. Ontario Institute of RadiotherapySub-series consists of press clippings files, principally taken from Toronto newspapers, with articles and photographs relating to the TGH. Clippings were pasted in scrapbooks and arranged alphabetically by subject.
Toronto General Hospital. Office of the PresidentSub-series consists of three versions of the TGH Manual of Policies and Procedures. The manuals were created for the information of Hospital managers and staff and contain administrative summaries of major Hospital departments and services, indexed alphabetically. Dates of creation for the manuals are uncertain since they contain mostly undated materials and were used for several years with frequent accruals of new material interfiled with original materials.

Sub-series consists of documents relating to the lease, mortgage, sale etc. of properties owned, occupied or managed by the Trustees of the Toronto General Hospital and documents relating to the management and disposition of estates endowed to the Trustees of the Toronto General Hospital, including wills and letters probate. Sub-series also includes a ledger of lessees to the Toronto General Hospital.
File 1.9.31 contains original deeds conveying property to the Trustees of the York Hospital (later the Toronto General Hospital) 1822-1850.

Board of TrusteesSub-series consists of wills and other estate papers concerning the bequest of money to TGH as well as deeds, mortgages, papers of sale and correspondence concerning land transactions. File 32.8.21 includes the first tax return and financial statement for The Toronto General Hospital Foundation for the period ending December 31, 1973, and correspondence from McCarthy & McCarthy Barristers regarding the tax status of the Foundation (1974). File 32.8.60 includes documentation relating to the use of funds for, and the naming of, the Medical Library. File 32.8.61 includes statements for the Fudger Medical Library Fund. File 32.8.126 includes curricula vitae for, and three research papers by, Kenneth Gordon McNeill and Joan Elizabeth Harrison. File 32.8.103 includes the names and expenses of staff and post-graduate nurses who benefitted from the Shenstone Fund. File 32.8.106 includes a list of books purchased for the Wellesley Division Nurses’ Library ca. 1950s. File 32.8.125 includes correspondence with lawyers and the U.S. Treasury Department regarding applications by Toronto General Hospital to obtain tax-exempt status. Both the original ruling from 1961 declaring TGH not exempt, and the original ruling from 1963 revoking the 1961 ruling and providing TGH tax-exempt organization classification are included.
The original order has been lost, but it is suspected that estate files had been kept alphabetically. No attempt has been made by the Archivist to try to reestablish a strict alphabetical order. Files 32.8.125 and 32.8.126 relate to grants and not estates or property. It is likely these files were mixed in with the estate files when they were originally sent to the Foundation.
Toronto General Hospital. Finance DepartmentSeries consists of copies of two staff/community publications: Generally Speaking and Monitor; issues of the Medical Staff Bulletin; newspaper clippings pertinent to the TGH supplied under contract to the Department by the Canadian Press Clippings Service; and various materials associated with the Department’s coordination of the Hospital’s sesquicentennial celebrations in 1979.

Sub-series consists of records relating to the TGH Department of Radiology’s involvement in the examination and identification of victims of an explosion and fire on board the Noronic in Toronto harbour September 1949. Materials include passenger lists, lists of victims/”specimens” examined and/or identified, and radiology reports on specific victims/”specimens”. File 6.3.3 contains a reprinted article by TGH Diagnostic Radiologist-in-Chief Dr. A.C. Singleton.

File 4.17.1 contains an executive summary of a plan to reorganize and expand TGH clinical services to improve patient care by revising and expanding ambulatory (Out-Patient) care facilities and services, in-patient care capabilities, and by strengthening the Hospital’s role as a regional provider of specialty medical services and as a research/educational institution.
File 4.17.2 contains a copy of a proposed amended constitution for the Medical Advisory Board, providing for elected as well as appointed members. The document was approved by the Medical Advisory Board September 22, 1969, and submitted to the Board of Trustees.
Sub-series consists of monthly and annual reports submitted to the Board of Trustees by the chief executive officer of the TGH. Reports include financial statements, statistics illustrating major hospital and departmental functions and activities, summary accounts of major events occurring within the Hospital.

Respiratory Intensive Care Unit CommitteeSeries consists of a copy of a booklet published in 1950 by the Social Service Association: Social Service in the Toronto General Hospital 1911-1949: A History of the Association and an Account of the Growth and Development of the Social Service Department.
Toronto General Hospital. Social Service DepartmentSub-series consists of correspondence, chiefly letters of request and approval for expenditures from the Hospital’s annual Special Capital Grant allocation. Much of the correspondence involves the Office of the Superintendent and the Ontario Hospital Services Commission, Hospital Grants Division, the body responsible for administering the Special Capital Grants allocated to Ontario hospitals on an annual basis. Sub-series consists of various materials relating to special events and ceremonies associated with the TGH and organized by the Board of Trustees, including invitations, event programs and commemorative publications, guest lists, statements by event organizers and participants, correspondence.
File 1.6.1 contains materials deposited in a cornerstone box in April 1911 during a ceremony marking the start of the building of the College St. site of the TGH, including lists as of April 11, 1911 of TGH House Medical Staff, nursing staff (including student nurses), and honorary governors of the Board of Trustees; “A Brief Historical Sketch of the Toronto General Hospital, its Origin and its Progress…1818 to 1911”, a manuscript by A.F. Miller, TGH Secretary and Treasurer 1876-1917; a “List of Special Grants and Subscriptions to the new TGH Building Fund” 1905-1911; and an “Original Estimate of Cost of the new Buildings of the TGH” adopted by the Board of Trustees March 2, 1910.
File 1.6.11 contains a sketchbook commissioned by Toronto General Hospital and presented to Sir John M Gibson, Lt. Governor of Ontario, to mark the opening of its new buildings, designed by Darling & Pearson at 101 College Street, June 1913 to January 1914. Gold-stamped leather binding design, title page inscription, and six black-and-brown ink drawings by J.E.H. MacDonald depicting various TGH buildings.
File 1.6.12 contains a booklet on the Private Patients Building printed by Grip Limited, Toronto for W.G. Macfarlane Ltd. With decorative borders and cover by J.E.H. MacDonald and line drawings by Tom Thomson. Undated, but probably to commemorate opening of new TGH buildings, June 1913 to January 1914.
File 1.6.13 contains the menu and program for a dinner in honour of W.E. Gallie on the occasion of his retirement from the chair of surgery at the University of Toronto, 1947. Includes illustrations designed and drawn by Mabel Gill with the aid of R.I. Harris.
