Series consists of nurses’ day books jointly maintained by the TGH School of Nursing and Department of Nursing. Files 1.1.6.1 to 1.1.6.3 contain a daily log of service performed by TGH nurse administrators, head nurses, dietitians, graduate nurses and student nurses, including names; location (department, ward, building) of service; notes on vacations, leaves of absence, illness and disciplinary measures imposed for misconduct. File 1.1.6.4 is a daily log of service performed in the TGH Burnside Obstetrical Wing by TGH School of Nursing students and students from affiliated schools of nursing, including names, TGH School of Nursing class year or affiliated school, ward/floor and hours worked each day, and date of course completion.
Series consists of an indexed, alphabetically arranged manual of procedures maintained by the TGH School of Nursing for the direction of student nurses in completing basic professional training duties. Contains materials created or revised at various times between December 1943 and June 1959.
Series consists of pamphlets containing the constitution, by-laws and rules of the Student Nurses’ Association of the TGH School of Nursing, as revised in August 1957, July 1959, April 1964, and November 1967. The Association was established October 30, 1917.
Series consists of various materials documenting ceremonies and special events associated with the TGH School of Nursing. File 1.1.9.1 contains a commemorative publication, prepared by the TGH School of Nursing Alumnae Association to honor the graduates of the School who served during World War I.
File 1.1.9.2 contains materials relating to the School’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 1931, including a program of events, a list of letters received, a narrative summary of principal events, census of registration, text of address by Mary Snively, a list of donors of prizes and scholarships for the School 1900-1931, a list of living graduates of the School 1883-1930 with their address and place of occupation in 1931, a History of the School for Nurses published by the TGH School of Nursing Alumnae Association, and correspondence relating to the publication of the History. File 1.1.9.20 contains a copy of the second volume of the History, published in 1968 by Mary E. Macfarland, former TGH Director of Nursing, and intended to mark the 85th anniversary of the founding of the School, April 1966.
File 1.1.9.10 contains copies of invitations to the School’s graduation dinner for 1958, 1959, 1963 and 1967. File 1.1.9.11 contains copies of speeches at the TGH School of Nursing graduation ceremonies by Samuel Beatty, Chancellor of the University of Toronto (1954) and Dana Porter, Chief Justice of Ontario (1958). File 1.1.9.13 contains lists of speakers (1950-1975) and presenters of pins and diplomas (1946-1977) at the TGH School of Nursing graduation ceremonies. Files 1.1.9.14 to 1.1.9.19 contain copies of the program of events for TGH School of Nursing graduation ceremonies 1919-1974, including the names of speakers, presenters, graduates, and academic prize winners.

Toronto Western Hospital. Atkinson School of NursingSeries consists of the permanent student academic records files created and maintained by the Atkinson School of Nursing of the Toronto Western Hospital. Records contained in individual files vary according to the date of creation, but may include student history cards containing grades, instructors’ assessments, dates of admission to the School and completion of course; certificates of preliminary education (high school academic records); reports from affiliated Hospitals, schools of nursing, and/ or education programs which students attended to receive specialized training and experience; and medical records. Some files also contain materials subsequently added, including letters from students or their agents requesting letters of reference for employment or information contained in their files, applications for employment in the Nursing Department of the TWH and employment records. For graduating years after 1920, only a 10% sample has been retained.

Sub-series contains a 10% sample of the records of students from affiliated schools of nursing who attended the Atkinson School of Nursing of the Toronto Western Hospital to receive a specialized course of instruction or to complete professional training in nursing service in the nursing department of the Toronto Western Hospital 1935-1973. File 1.2.1.6.1 includes monthly ratings of student nurses in the Operating Room, as well as miscellaneous correspondence such as letters of recommendation, and applications for post-graduate training. It is likely that these records are of a post-graduate training course in Operating Room techniques.

Records contained in individual files vary according to the date of creation, but may include student history cards containing grades, instructors’ assessments, dates of admission to the School and completion of course; certificates of preliminary education (high school academic records); reports from affiliated Hospitals, schools of nursing, and/ or education programs which students attended to receive specialized training and experience; and medical records. Some files also contain materials subsequently added, including letters from students or their agents requesting letters of reference for employment or information contained in their files, applications for employment in the Nursing Department of the Grace Hospital and the Toronto Western Hospital and employment records.
Series includes all records for students in graduating classes up to and including 1920, and a 10% sample of records for students in post-1920 graduating classes. File 1.3.1.44 contains miscellaneous records for students in graduating classes 1912-1923. File 1.3.1.45 contains a list of graduates of the School 1892-1928.
Series consists principally of operation records and discharge summaries for a selection of Dr. Bigelow's surgical cases, organized by medical problem/ surgical procedure, and used as an aid for diagnosis and the determination of appropriate surgical procedures for use with new patients. These files were also used for research purposes in preparing case study reports and statistical analyses of specific surgeries. Some of the files are subdivided by facets of the medical problem/ surgical procedure exemplified: for example, File 0094-10-0-10 subdivides records exemplifying patent ductus arteriosus surgery into sections devoted to "division" and "ligation".
Series consists of minutes of the Medical Audit Committee from 1986-1990. Minutes of the committee had been kept in one binder, within which minutes were filed in reverse chronological order. The files have been arranged chronologically by date.
Ontario Cancer Institute/Princess Margaret Hospital. Medical Audit Committee
