Herrgott Brothers Thresher Co.Fonds consists of notes, tape recordings, research material and photographs related to the interviews for the book “Inheritance: Ontario’s Century Farms Past and Present”, written by John and Monica Ladell, published in 1979. The interviews took place in the summers of 1977 and 1978 and in the intervening winter. Their research concerns farms that have been owned and worked by the same family for a hundred years or more. The book focuses on forty-two Century Farm families from Ontario’s farming community. The Century Farm designation program is administered by the Junior Farmers Association of Ontario, a youth organization devoted to rural leadership and community betterment. Century farms are designated as follows: 1. farms must be in active operation; 2. direct descendants of the same family must have been in possession of the farm for 100 consecutive years.

Roblin Cheese FactoryThe collection consists of articles on preserving, by the canning process, various types of produce. There is specific information given on the pre-cooling method of canning, dry canning, the making of jams, the canning of peas, and chicken canning. Manuals and cookbooks for pressure cookers that focus on canning are also included. There are five reports, dated 1915 to 1919, by the By-Products Department on their yearly mandate that includes information on the finances of the canning factory. Also included is a report to the Experiment Station Board and Experiment Station Advisory Board. There are several reports for business trips taken by the By-Products Department and one report on the experiments carried out by the By-Products department. In addition, there are circulars on the Organization of Resources Committee and some patent information.
Culverhouse, Percy Edward, 1892-1926The collection includes school calendars that provide a brief history of the school, describe its goals, criteria for eligibility, rules of conduct, the facilities, and the courses themselves. Also included is a record-book of applications for attendance from 1903 to 1966. In addition, the collection contains registration books, one under the original name of Kingston Diary School and the rest under the name Eastern Dairy School. These books document who the students were, their place of residence, past experience in the field of cheese and butter making, and a ledger of course enrollments. Furthermore, there is a list of school alumni dating back from the school’s inception in 1898 to 1945, as well as an alphabetical ledger of course enrollments from 1898 to 1974. In the collection there are also examination results, prize winners, and negatives for class pictures.
