Fonds consist of materials gathered by Rupert Raj, a Canadian trans activist, born in Ottawa, who lived in Toronto most of his adult life before relocating to Vancouver, B.C. in 2017. Highlights of this donation include materials relating to the three trans-related periodicals Raj founded and edited in the 1970s and 1980s; the original, unpublished manuscript of his international transsexual/transgenderist/transvestic poetry anthology ("Of Souls and Roles, Of Genes and Gender," 1991); correspondence with other transsexual/transvestite/transgender people (including activists) and medical/psychological professionals, around the world, research on phalloplasty and other trans issues; personal scrapbooks and photographs; and AV materials. Books, periodicals, and AV materials are catalogued separately.

The fonds contains records that reflect the life and work of Canadian broadcaster and novelist Shirley Shea dating from 1947 to 2003. The fonds consists predominantly of correspondence from her various publishers, pertaining to Shea’s mystery novels, licencing agreements, and royalties. It also includes promotional photographs of Shirley Shea, photographs of Shea working at a number of radio stations, and some personal photographs. Fonds consists of a single volume diary kept by Sidney Hugh Godolphin Osborne while living in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. The first entry is dated January 18, 1911, and the last entry is made on Dec. 2, 1912.

The journal details Osborne’s travels and social activities within Canada as well as in the United States. Osborne tipped in images from the magazines of the day to illustrate some of his diary entries.

The records relate to the lives of those interviewed, as well as gay and lesbian life more broadly at the time in Vancouver, Canada at large, as well as at points internationally. The fonds contains records relating to the work and activism of longtime gay activist, writer and educator Tim McCaskell. The records pertain predominantly to McCaskell’s work with the Toronto District School Board’s Equal Opportunity Office as a Student Programme Worker. In this role, McCaskell developed and delivered programs for students and teachers on equity issues related to racism, sexism, homophobia, disability, class and immigration. He organized workshops and training sessions, student camps, and developed resource materials. The fonds also includes some records reflecting McCaskell’s activism. These records relate to his work for The Body Politic, the Right to Privacy Committee and various workshops and events that McCaskell was involved in. The fonds contains meeting minutes, correspondence, guides, flyers, workshop agendas, planning notes, and resource material.

The fonds contains notebooks kept by managers of Doll & Penny’s Cafe in Vancouver, British Columbia between 1987 and 1991.

Fonds consists of records created and maintained by Tony Farebrother, a gay activist in Montreal. Records document the activities of l'Association pour les droits des gai(es) du Quebec (ADGQ); Gayline, a Gay Social Services Project of the Ville Marie Social Service Centre; Drop-In Gay, a social centre in Montreal; the National Gay Rights Coalition; and the Gay Coalition Against Repression. The Foundation for Equal Families was founded in 1994 following the failure of Bill 167 in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario.
